My ex fiance once playfully punch me in the chest. She caught me at a good angle, I fell over and knocked myself out on the fire place.
Shes doing 19 Months.

We chuckled, she apologised and that was that.

I think there's plenty of scope between those two options.If you don't ... well, there isn't an issue.
How about he doesn't feel threatened, and doesn't think it's remotely serious enough to involve the police, but he doesn't like it, he's told her before, she hasn't listened, he thinks it shows a lack of respect of his individual boundaries, so has decided to jettison her.
That's how I read it, and I think he's done exactly the right thing.
