The closest I've been to dying was having a burst appendix at the age of three. I'm still here. There must be loads of you out there who have had close scrapes with the Grim Reaper........

This morning some berk decided to try and cross the highway in London in front of me on a motorbike and a Terravision coach in the other lane.
If I had been going any quicker I would have hit him.

Assorted near-death experiences behind the wheel, but the more sobering thought is that I, my wife and two of my children owe our lives more or less entirely to modern medicine.

When I was about 13 myself & two friends decided it would be a good idea to get drunk. Unfortunately I decided to get very drunk & ended up being rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

I woke about 12hrs later, apparently I had no reflexes & was spared the stomach pump, they had left me on a trolley & hoped I came round eek

Needless to say my parents were just glad I was still breathing so I didn't even get a major rollocking! Got drunk many times since but always had more respect for it than most people I know.

2 rounds of open heart surgery for valve work. Not sure if it's luck or skill of the surgeons but I reckon the odds get worse each time and not looking forward to round 3. Plenty of "life is too short" moments recently.

flip me, that was lucky to get out of that!

Hit by a car quite badly whilst on my push bike in October. Managed to escape with a sore body and a knackered bike!

The ambulance weren't too sure how I'd gotten off so lightly - was lucky really as I went on a month long honeymoon two weeks later.

Yes. No near death experiences, but I have a good life and I'm pleased I have it.

We all are. Think of how many sperm your father produced over his lifetime. We're all very low probability events biggrin

Got hit by a car when I was sixteen. Young driver lost control at speed and mounted the pavement, hitting me from behind. I smashed the windscreen with the back of my head, then departed to the left and over a three-foot wall with a six-foot drop behind it. Broken leg, concussion, numerous cuts and bruises.

According to docs, if I had been walking the other direction, would probably have been game over, or if I was lucky, would just never have walked properly or looked very nice in the face (even worse than I do already).

(One of the bits I remember with most clarity is, due to the impact breaking both the belt and top button on my trousers, when I stood up (ignoring advice from bystanders who rushed to help), my trousers fell down and I had crap pants on. Worse than the rest of the injuries for the sixteen-year-old me. Especially as there were a couple of girls nearby....)

Smashed a (motor)bike into a parked Transit van at 16 years and 8 days. I spent five months in hospital with shattered left leg/hip/knee, broken sternum and ribs, broken collarbone and left arm, bones in the back of my left hand, serious spinal injuries which are still impacting my life today.

Never lost consciousness so knew just how badly I was smashed up and was lying in the road for several hours while the police diverted traffic round me waiting for an ambulance.

Thing that hurt the worst was my hand!

I was most worried about the state of my bike and how much trouble I was going to get into as I was to young to be riding it!

I rolled my Boxster a few years back, pretty severely. The near side A pillar was bent down towards the passenger seat quite a lot, such that if I'd had a passenger they'd most likely be a goner. I escaped with a small graze to my arm and soiled undercrackers.

I certainly wandered around for the next week breathing in the sweet smell of cut grass and fresh air with renewed vigour.

I hit my head on exit of the plane once.

Now that's not bad you say, just laugh with the stewardess. Except I was parachuting..........

Very twisted lines which took me too close to another chap.

But I think it was pretty well away from being lucky to be alive.

That's your own fault. Jumping out of an aeroplane by your own volition. You lunatic!
