Probably overkill in the UK, but sensible if somewhere with hurricanes, volcanos, civil unrest, etc.

I would add a spare passport / copy of your passport, spare credit card.

Mult tool.

£500.
Torch.
Waterproof matches + bit of rubber inner tube for waterproof kindling.
Pen pencil and paper.
Lock picks.
Small FM radio + batterys.
Hip-flask with whisky 50% so it can burn as well.
Super glue.
Spoon.
Sweets and chocolate.
Tiny water filter.
far more important than all of this would be knowledge and experience.

do you know how to use all of this? could you actually survive on it?

Sort of... Like a few others I've got a very small bag permanently in the boot of the car. Wash bag, spare t shirt, pants and socks. I can quite often end up on an unexpected overnighter with work at the other end of the country and while I've always got spare shirts/ties in my locker, the bag has come in handy.

When I'm at work on nights, I have a backpack with some, frankly, weird st in it... Scene suits, overshoes, masks, gloves and a roll of parcel tape, scene log, exhibit labels, bags, DNA swabs, various forms, spare pens, torch, cuff key, first aid kit, space blanket, pot noodle, phone charger, stick on blue light, spare radio battery...

I could not imagine having £500 just tucked away in a bag forgotten about "just in case". Come the end of December I doubt I'd have much more than that in my current account!

No I don't have a go to bag. I keep a couple of quid change in my car for car parks. That's about as prepared for the worst as I get hehe

Do you know who the OP is? He's pistonheads very own Bear Grylls.

I immediately thought of the fake US Marine being rumbled on cam as I read through the list of mostly pointless stuff.

not in the slightest - it would be no different than anyone in the uk leaving a spare key with a neighbour or taking their wallet with them when they go out or whatever - sensible and not at all OTT in the circumstances

Having a bug out bag, esp one in OG, urban cam or black just makes you a massive target if you ever have to use it in a real situation. Be the grey man!

Good point.

Easy enough to drab it up later if required.

This thread is making me tempted to get a few extra bits in.

Even just for sensible home emergencies, like thermal blankets and a decent multi-tool etc.

As for prepping generally, I'm amazed how many people on that USA TV show live in high rises in cities. If you're that serious about prepping and 'a thing' happening, then surely you'd live in suburbs with open country near by?

My other half thinks its strange that I have a go bag, she thinks its so I can do a runner from her but it has stuff for us both in it.

I have always had one because of the time I spent on boats, and the random emergencies that have happened around me in the past.

If you don't know what one is, its a small bag full of useful stuff that you might need in an emergency. I keep it in the house and just forget about it.

In mine I keep:

Duck tape.
100ft of paracord.

So am I just a paranoid idiot or do you keep a go bag, if so what do you have in yours?
OP. - you say you keep this kit at home, in a bag.

What kind of emergency do you envisage which would require you to leave home at very short notice (thereby necessitating a "GTFO bag").?

Zombies? No thanks - ill face them on my own turf.
Nuclear war - so I'm going to go where, exactly?

You're not Neil McCauley.

Add in fly spray, condoms, some random old keys, half a dozen assorted screws and lots of small change and the contents sound like the top drawer of my bedside cabinet, I suppose a bag would be easier to carry if it all kicked off though smile

Hobo is the best look to go for until you get out of the urban areas.

The "in thing" in the US now is bug out vehicles.

I dig it..

OP, you are really quite odd.

I have sensible emergency items in my house, and in each vehicle I keep items such as a torch, multitool, can of tyre foam etc, and in winter I add stuff like gloves, hat.

But a Go Bag? Here in the UK? Mental...

Jeez.

15s of spraying fun and then getting stuck on an urban road jammed with cars... hehe

I think hobo with a sawn off semi-auto shotgun hidden under a jacket is definitely the more discrete and successful way to find yourself out of an urban area to your bug-out location.
