Yes most of these people who prep do have weapons, but also they plan to bug out to a safer location. Yes you could say some go a bit too far.

Good thread. Living in Wellington New Zealand, we have a 'Go Bag' which is in the car and supplies at home.

The bag has the following (from what I can remember).
Two Belgian Army Canvas Poncho's - which when joined can make a tent!
Water - 2 Litres
Torches
Matches
Penknife
Wind-up Radio
Spare Shoes
Gaffa Tape
T-shirts
Cash
First Aid Kit
and some other stuff…

In the house we have
60 litres of stored water
7 days worth of dried food
tinned food
+ a repeat of the above list.

So if the 1 in 10 chance of a +7.0 earthquake happens on the Wellington Fault, hopefully we can a. be a little safer and b. do some good to help others.

Yep. In a total societal collapse, what you want is a shotgun and a lot of shells. Preferably a group of similarly equipped mates. Then you survive by ripping off the preppers and anyone else you need to.
Anything that isn't total collapse can be remedied with a water bottle and bag of food. Just walk to the nearest civilised place, and use your credit card.
Some of the kits described so far look like a rape kit with some additional b&e toys.... So while you get bummed by the zombie trolls, I'll move into my local Tesco and defend 'my stuff' with the shotgun.

The oddest omission from your list is a couple of pairs of underpants. Socks, but no pants. I'd need a few pairs of those in my kit. Probably brown ones.

I think I'm the weird one though. I'd hate to have stuff stockpiled for the Apocalypse - it just makes you a target. It won't take long for a gang to turn up and relieve you of it all. After which they'll no doubt chop you up and start the BBQ.

Interesting how it has changed over the years. My first course include tourniquets and writing the time of the last blood letting in blood on the casualties forehead.

I can't think of any emergency here in the UK where I would need to leave my house in such a hurry that a pre-packed emergency survival bag would be of benefit.

When travelling in the car when snow is forecast, I'll carry a collapsible snow spade, some water, some emergency food, torch, warning triangle, blanket, etc., but that's just common sense. And on a continental cruise in the TVR I'll carry enough spare parts to almost be able to build a sister car, as they are hard to source.

I guess it's all down to planning for likely scenarios.

• A snow spade when driving in snow - likely.
• Carrying obscure fuses, relays, throttle cable, and other hard-to-find spares when driving abroad - sensible.
• The stuff the OP has in his bag - WTF?

I don't see why you'd opt for a shotgun anyway, the best combination is crossbow and samurai sword. Also the OP has forgotten antibiotics, a minor scratch or bite could be fatal without antibiotics. These omissions only serve to compound his foolishness in not packing any spare pants.
