If you are in a situation to need a go bag you're unlikely to need £500. A shotgun or a big stick would be better for bartering purposes.

Really wasn't aiming for that appearance.

I'm just a bit of a jinks and have been in a few fires houses and hotels. Times when i have been stood outside in boxers and t-shirt and noting else, wishing I had some socks or money to get a hot drink food or book another hotel. Once I really needed a torch so I could see down the stairs in a hotel that was on fire so I and the other 20 odd people could see the way down. The exit lights were st in the 80's.

It just evolved to carry more and more stuff over the years.
Wait, wait, wait.....

You carry it with you when you travel??

As in, you pack your suitcase and other holiday/business paraphernalia and then think

"Oh, st - must put the Emergency Go bag in aswell, what was I thinking?!

What if I was stuck in a Travelodge and needed that 500 quid and paracord..."

nuts

It not only looks like some kind of rape kit (with £500 hush money included ) but also one specifically designed for raping zombies after the Apocalypse.

Nothing weird here , no siree......................... walks backwards slowly ........

I suppose that I do have one in a way.

Boxers, socks, shaving kit, deodorant and tooth brush/paste.

Have been travelling a lot on business for years and keep separate kit for short-notice travel.

Would be st in the event of zombie attack but handy if a night in some stty Premier Inn is on the cards at short notice.

I know my limits me.

However, I suspect the vast majority of people (myself included) don't have a 'store cupboard' of food that would last more than a couple of days, and would be in trouble if their local supermarket had to shut due to bad weather, a fuel crisis, etc.
Depends if they shop in Costco or not. I've currently got enough baked beans and bog roll to last me until Easter biggrin

A gun of some sort would make sense for a come-what-may survival bag but it'd probably be foolish to admit to it on your internet forum thread.

What kind of scenario are you preparing yourself for?
Mostly some sort of situation where I have to get out of bed and leave the house hotel or boat quickly.

Its happened a few times to me, mostly due to fire so I don't know why I keep the matches in there.

The cash has come in useful for foreign speeding fines, and having to stop another night coming back form a holiday because of the snow.

Superglue was used to fix a low pressure petrol pipe leak, and a deep cut on my finger when I was on a skiing holiday. (I fell over onto a broken glass bottle in the snow)

Paracord has mostly been used for shoe laces and fixing broken suitcases.

Flares are very small and useless really, just left over from the boat and still in date.

Small FM radio + batterys, spent 4 nights in a hotel with no TV. Its sad but I missed some sort of noise.

Tiny water filter is used every time I go away, i don't like drinking tap water.

And so on really.

Not quite, or even close to the OPs 'Go Bag' but I always keep in a handy place.

Passports
Passport Photos
Innoculation card

and in a separate but also handy place

Photocopies of Passports
$1000

I have had this for many years because of working overseas, only once needed the money after I was robbed and left with no cash and no credit cards.

Its more of a first world problems not end of world. I wasn't really expecting to have to use all of it at the same time.

Probably calling it a go bag is wrong.

Is the £500 cash all in GBP or is it a number of different currencies, the combined value of which amounts to £500?

GBP mostly at the moment with about 100 Euros, I tend to change it to euros when I go away. Or what ever currency is used where I'm going.

Marshmallows and a stick might be a good idea as well.

No, because I am sane.

It's not a 'downfall of society' bag is it - cash, untraceable mobile phones - it's a 'Lord Lucan' bag for when the Police find the bodies.

That's a good point. You'll need a currency that's taken everywhere, something like gold or saffron. Or 1Direction stickers.
