It has been a funny year:

Diagnosed with cancer.

Had the 9 month all clear from cancer.

Turned a failing department into the most profitable one at work.

My son turned one.

Nearly finished my MSc dissertation.

I was one of the Lead engineers on this:

I led from concept through to delivery. And not just the ST. All new Focus. Got multiple internal awards for my efforts (and a promotion to senior engineer!)

Oh and I bought a house.
Ah, so it's all your fault is it. hehe
Yeah. Talk to us when you've got the power coming from the back.

Been a year of ups and down, the low point being my mother having to go on dialysis, and being in hospital for a while.

Ups have been moving to a lovely home opposite Kensington Palace, trip to Affalterbach in my C63, full pelt on the Autobahn, and meeting the guy who built my engine.

But far and above anything, has been the birth of my first child in November.

It has been an odd year really.

I took over a kitchen in March and it really took off. Owners were happy as the takings were far in excess of the previous year on a month to month comparison. Went on holiday and my contract was terminated the day before I was due back without any warning or reason given. Have worked with some very good chefs this year and I have a lot of new ideas for the coming year.

No trackdays either which has been a bit crap.

2015 could be shaping up to be a cracker though.

My frankly awesome daughter.

Florida Sheriffs Deputy (OC) and Field Training Officer

Tactical Firearms Specialist

Honor Guard (participated in the funerals of two LEO colleagues and the FL State Memorial)

She wrote this on the morning following one officers murder...

"Officer German had been with Windermere PD for as long as I have been with The Orange County Sheriffs Office. I didn't know this officer, yet I may have dispatched a call or two to him during my time as a dispatcher. Maybe even spoke with him on the phone, or traded a couple of messages over the computer with him. I honestly can't recall.
But last night as I was on my home from my shift doing the same job as he, I heard the call come out and I headed towards the scene. While on the way, I heard that he was being transported to ORMC. As I was close, I diverted to the hospital as I knew that whatever his status, he should not be alone and I knew that our central florida officers and deputies were busy trying to find his murderers. They didn't need me there.
I arrived at the hospital before the ambulance and waited in the ambulance bay with an OPD officer who was posted at ormc and medical staff for what seemed like forever. The ambulance arrived and I followed Officer German and the medical staff inside where I stayed with him until I relieved a few hours later.
To everyone who knew him, knew his voice, or didn't know him at all, find some small comfort in knowing that Officer German was not alone. RIP. Rest easy brother, we have the watch."

Two days ago, her role changed from street patrol to Detective - not a huge promotion, but another step in the right direction.

She is an inspiration to her parents and to most people who know her - not bad for a scruffy little nipper from Swarcliffe Estate in Leeds, eh?

Passed the first year of my course with flying colours, which was a real shot in the arm after the dismal failure of my previous course!

Now to cap it off, I have got a placement job for 2015-16 with a very reputable and industry-leading company - the job offer coming through just 2 hours after my interview, which was the first job interview I've ever had in my life!

Here's to 2015 beer

A few little things:
Running up and down Ben Nevis on three consecutive nights this summer. Brilliant feeling reaching the summit as the sun goes down with only a few bewildered walkers around.
Selling my flat to buy a house in the place I want to spend a decent chunk of my life.
Generally improving my health, but a lot more to do on that next year.

Continuing to manage to get out of bed most mornings & do a job I hate. frown

Continuing to do said job with minimal resource & under ridiculous working conditions, eg: In at 19:30, work thru till 2:00 - 3:00 the following morning, then a few hours sleep & then back in at 8:00 later that morning for a full day. Rinse and repeat 3-4 times a month. frown

Managing to distance myself and cut off contact with nobbers who I no longer wish to associate with smile

My daughters own achievements are a bigger sense of pride TBH.

On a similar note, I split up with my wife in October 2013 (The old "I love you, I'm just not in love with you anymore" line!). There was an opportunity in May to work in Australia for 3 months so I took it as I just wanted to get away from everything for a while. Started using Tinder over there and met a 33 year old Aussie girl (I am 41! I may have even asked Council Baby's advice on the Match thread as I had 3 offers of a date that weekend! His advice was spot on!).

Things instantly felt right on our first date and I moved in with her at the start of September. I am back in the UK for Christmas but I head back out to Melbourne on the 28th of December and we have a trip to Vegas and New York book for February.

Just applied for my Decree Nisi so should hopefully be divorced soon! Got my 457 Visa organised so I can stay in Australia. I own hardly any possessions now and that in itself has been a liberating experience.

So I have gone from living at my parents house at the start of the year to living in Melbourne with a hot girl 8 years younger than me. Looking forward to New Year in the warm!

I think most of my married friends are slightly jealous!

Life could be worse.....
Not just a pretty face thumbup

For me...

Jacked in the career, fking hated it anyway. Not been paid since which has been tough but steadily building the start up I'm now involved with so that's been an awesome experience having something to get my teeth into properly and get enthusiastic over.

On girlfriend number 3 this year, they don't really last so nothing really to report on this that front.

Not done a lot other than work this year but the prospects are good so happy enough thumbup

What am I most proud of... Ask me in 12 months.

Ive enjoyed watching our first grandson grow into an even more beautiful human being. Even more ive enjoyed turning him into a complete petrolhead at just 16 months old. He loves cars, epecially mine.

ive equally enjoyed watching my wife dote over him. It makes the s hit you inevitably have to deal with in life all seem worthwhile. Ive enjoyed watching the joy he brings his parents.

I am please witn the work I have undertaken on the 355 and the three trophies I have picked up with it - even more so I am pleased with the new pals I have met and talked to during the past year.

If 2015 is anything like as satisfying I will be a happy chap.

All the best, one and all smile

Good year for me.

Bought a new life into the world, with son number two.

Maintained an old life by carrying out CPR and defib to an old fella who made it out the other side. Was particularly nice to get a thank you via email from him just a few days ago. (also keeps my 100% record of succesful CPR intact!)

Got my weekend car back on the road after sitting idle on the driveway since the birth of my first son four years ago!
