I'm in the 3 days this week - but I'm a scummy IT contractor so want as much money as possible. Especially as my contract runs out on Thursday and I won't be starting my new job for a while as it involve relocating to New Zealand bounce

Does mean I'll be at home in the UK then in NZ for a month or so, so lots of time with my almost 3 year old biggrin

areas of the office are in darkness as so little people are in the lights go off if there is no movement.

Had to go and meet one of our suppliers this morning, luckily they had just flown in, so I met them at the airport. I couldn't believe how many people were walking around clearly off to catch a flight for work.

In today and tomorrow then back in on Monday.

Supposed to be having some time to catch up on things. But, as usual, things have cropped up and I've not really done anything I had planned.

I was in 05:16 on Sunday and 03:25 Monday to Thursday. Kinda sucks, but on the plus side it means I've got New Years off... and the roads are great for hooning at three in the morning on Christmas week. I think I might actually have the whole of Sussex to myself confused

I'm here all week - got a bit of work to do but the phone has not made a sound all day and not had a single email.

Rule used to be that as long as 2 members of staff from our team were in over the Christmas period on each day, we could work the rest of the time from home. Unfortunately as couple of idiots decided that didn't apply to them last year and now our boss deemed we all need to be in if we don't have holidays booked. frown

back at work. I have kept booze to a minimum and been to the gym a few times so feeling pretty buzzed, but not so much now after 9 hours night shift, and won't sleep until 1pm today.

I went in yesterday morning for a couple of hours.

Sent an email to a guy on the west coast USA at 6am, 5 minutes later he was on the telephone to me.

Those yanks must work hard. biggrin

Back in the office today, it's like the Marie Celeste at the moment. On a corridor with 75 people, there are currently 5 of us in. And we all work on different teams so are massively spread out, it feels more like I'm the only one in.

Should be a good day to get on with procedure updates and peer reviews though...

I'm in yesterday and today as someone 'senior' needed to cover the skeleton staff in case of any issues. On the plus side it's two extra days holiday to use when the weather is better and the roads are lovely and quiet.

middle of my week today, 3 days total.

Office is fairly busy but not my area, the client has a Christmas shutdown but we don't have one in the contract so we have to provide a service knowing it wont be used.

It is expensive though, already ordered some RC cars, few bits on Amazon and now browsing the classifieds for a sub £2k weekend toy!

I contracted for a large OEM auto manufacturer and they were pretty rigid in you having to take days in between Chrimbo and NY. I think this year was 23rd to 4th.
This year, however, I finished on the 9th after nearly 2 decades of usual Christmas familiarity, walked out at 3pm and then got on a plane at 10pm to fly to Singapore with my family.
Ok, so I haven't retired but I have no job lined up anytime soon so I actually stopped noting dates/days on the 9th Dec. It's very very weird. I was convinced today was Tuesday 29th but apparently it's NYE tomorrow. .Bizarre thing is since 'retiring' and looking after our young twins until we have a maid start, I've had far less time than when i had a full time job....i.e these f*ckers are a right full time job so, yes, I've been 'working' over the Chrimbo perioid flat out.
They start school though next week and the live in maid arrives anyday now so happy days...PS4 going to be ordered soon and rest of gadgets arrives in shipping

I was going to go in and do some work to bring a new plant installation as close to operational as possible.

But, the way I'm feeling about the place at the moment, it can burn down for all I care, so it can wait until the official return to work date.

As a Police officer I'm used to working Christmas and New Year. I think in the last 20 years or so I've worked more than I've been off (same for weekends/Easter etc really). I worked Christmas Day 8-4, Sat and Sun off, back in on Monday all this week and 8-4 tomorrow, then off Fri, Sat and Sun.

Christmas Day was quiet (for us, response cops were busier but not crazy). This week has been busier, did 13 1/2 hours yesterday and back in to the same job today. We tend to find its either crazy, non stop with extended shifts or deathly quiet, never usually a happy medium.

On the plus side, 28th was an "extra" public holiday as Boxing Day was a Saturday. And we get double pay for public holidays, so when it's quiet, it's easy money. When it's not, we do earn it. Plenty of colleagues spent most of the last week knee deep in flood water.
