Was due off the 30th but they have shifted core crew flight forward a day. Where in Spain are you?
Spooky, my changeout day was brought forward by a day too, from the 31st, to ensure people get all the way home. I am near Malaga.

If it helps any of your lot on rigs I have just had a call from a mate who was expecting to be stuck in not a very nice (but well remunerating) place for Christmas. He's back home 24 hours after being warned that they might not get off the platform due to the weather. This time it took 1 helicopter and 2 flights to get home. Last time was a helicopter, 3 flights, 1 train and 1 200 mile cab journey!

One of the guys on my shift lives in Nerja. I am a bit further north in Murcia.

I'm in and its dead (steelworks) mill is down for 3 weeks and we had one lorry today (likely to be the last). The place has never been so tidy and its boring as hell. I'm offering to take Christmas eve off unpaid but unlikely to get it.

Might be off Christmas eve if I can wrap up all my admin tomorrow, off Christmas Day but am in Glasgow 26th and 27th, off 28-29th then in Edinburgh 30th to 1st, Brum 2nd and 3rd. Busiest week or so for me for weeks, all paying days too, so shouldn't complain.

I'm working up to Christmas eve, but went on call at 5:30pm tonight and come off 9am on 29th, then off from 5:30pm through to 5th Jan.

Just hope none of my customers break their chip and pin solutions or ecomm, or I could be a little busy.

In this week although half day on Wednesday. Then not in until 6th, working from home on the 5th Jan as I have to pop out for an xray.

We are flying over the holiday period, so I'm at work on Xmas eve, then back in between Xmas and new year. I don't mind as most of the bosses are off, so (hopefully) we can get on with running the airline in peace.

Also, I have had more than enough of turkey, mince pies and crap TV by the end of Boxing Day, so using my leave at other times of the year suits me fine smile.

To be honest I'd like to have work to do over Christmas. I get bored and lazy sitting around at home and there's no point doing all the Christmas stuff just for myself.

Talking to a couple of my friends at the pub on Saturday and I was horrified to hear that they are working right up until Xmas Eve and then back in 29-31DEC and then again on 02JAN! I'm in this morning for a meeting and then tomorrow as we have our annual piss up but that's it until 05Jan for me. It seems pointless to me to get people to come in over the festive period unless they work in an operational role or in retail/leisure.

Merry Christmas smile
At my last employer they suddenly decided it was the most important thing in the world that the office was manned in between Xmas and NY - not that they came into the office.

It was pathetic. The only call we had in those three days was from the boss, to check up on us!

I just spent the time watching downloaded movies and on the internet.

I'm only off Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, but that's just the way my shifts fall rather than planning. From past experience it'll be "feast or famine" - mad busy or deadly quiet. No happy medium.

Our customers only stop for Xmas day, so really the whole period is a pain in the arse. Lots of work at the moment to get as many lorries in before the break, then more lorries between 26th and 31st, and then back to normal movements on the 2nd. We still run 75% or more staff during the break, although some competitors do shut down completely. Wish we did that!

I finish at lunchtime tomorrow, back in on Monday, then only New Year's day off next week, working on Fri 2nd Jan. I'm also on call in case of I.T fook ups over Christmas and until 9th Jan. Not really a problem, but you never know over year-end processing = financial year-end too.

Well, I've no holiday left anyway, so poor planning on my part!

Working today and tomorrow, then would normally be off until the 5th. I'm actually working a couple of days between Christmas and NY as I then get them back as an additional 2 days of holiday next year. Useful when the track day season starts again smile

I wish i'd taken the week off. Then i wouldnt have a big dent in the back of my 911 coz it would have been on the drive this morning.

Working xmas eve, boxing day night, on call Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, new years eve and on call new years day + night. So yeah, only Xmas day off really. Plenty of colleagues working that day though. Joys of working in a hospital.

I don't mind too much I suppose, it's what I've signed up to working in the NHS, but I dislike it when people moan they 'only' get 23rd Dec - 2nd Jan off every year.

Question for those who do shift work, particularly hospitals -

Do you take it in turns each year to work Christmas Day etc, is it random or do you have to be organised and book the time off in advance?

Where I work there's a rolling rota of people who are guaranteed any annual leave they request over the Christmas period. Everyone else has to work the normal days (xmas eve, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st) and volunteer for on call duties on the nights, weekends, and bank holidays. If people don't volunteer or only pick the 'easy' ones, they are given duties instead.
