We have a fixed rota - set down on a fixed rotation so you just have to knuckle down. Part of the job.

Our department monitors the critical comms rooms for a bank. Any issues with the comms room we have to react and organise a response. Generators and air conditioners dont know what holidays are and if they start to go wrong then the impact could ripple out.

The pattern is fixed so atleast we know who is on.

Yep, John McClane.

Wife's office...
In the book it's his daughter's office.
But then in the book he's called Joe Leland.

Worked last night until 7 AM this morning; now back in to work for a 12 to 8 PM shift. Back in at 9 on Boxing Day and working through both New Years Eve and New Years Day.

Joys.

Pretty quiet today. Loads of people have bought their dogs into the office though, so it's entertaining bedlam at least biggrin

EDIT:

Meet Jeffrey biggrin

We have a raffle on Christmas Eve of wines that builders/other consultants have sent us, and then we knock off around lunch.

I've done all I need to do, browsing PH and facebook and have already activated my out of office email response!

Sat at work now. Here till 2230 then back in tomorrow at 1430 till 2230 again..

The joys of shift work and covering a H24 watch!

Still, got new year off and it means my colleagues get to spend Christmas with their kids.

Yes! 'Nothing Lasts Forever' by Roderick Thorp. It's a bit deeper than the film.

I love the idea of dogs in the office, one chap I was on nights with bought his dog in and hid bits of buttered crumpet around the office for the dog to find, he was at it for hours!

I'm in for another hour or so until the nightshift turn up, swapped tomorrow with our tame Jehovah's Witness (god luv 'im) and I'm back in for boxing day nights.

Talking to a couple of my friends at the pub on Saturday and I was horrified to hear that they are working right up until Xmas Eve and then back in 29-31DEC and then again on 02JAN! I'm in this morning for a meeting and then tomorrow as we have our annual piss up but that's it until 05Jan for me. It seems pointless to me to get people to come in over the festive period unless they work in an operational role or in retail/leisure.

Merry Christmas smile
Why do you think that everyone works in an office?

Are you Tony Blackburn?

Because I work in one and struggle with the concept that people have a different job to mine biggrin

Just about to leave to drop the missus off at the airport, the Sunday blues are going to be magnified x1500, I'm not in the mood to go back to work tomorrow!

I had Christmas off this year, finished 0700 on Christmas Eve and was back in for 0700 this morning.

I've now got 2 days/2 nights so will be working NYE night. But I will ensure this is done from home. And the night of the 30th tbh.

Fixed roster so I know well in advance what's going on.

Ditto that Tom, my last day was the 21st and not booked anything in until the 9th Jan.

Been a laugh.
