Having observed years ago the fashion of wearing/displaying all your wealth to the belief that you were somehow higher up on the estate pecking order by how many gold charms-sovereigns you owned, has this trend now changed to tattoos as in a recent venture this summer to a Spanish costa clearly 2/3rds of the pi55ed up red faced punters enjoyed displaying these modern body enhancements.

Sorry if I've offended any rolled up short sleeved chequered shirt wearing big beard hipsters !

You may have a point, the amount of lads local to me with 'full sleeves' beggars belief, especially when you hear how much they're all spending. In one little town centre there are three, THREE, tattoo shops!

I often think, while they think it looks cool now, how will they look when they're old and wrinkled?!

Strange fashion trend and one that'll pass, and them they'll all be stuck with their art.

I don't have any tattoos, but the old and wrinkly argument is a poor one imho, when I'm that age I'll look like st anyway as we all will.

Speak for yourself. Will continue training subject to illness so can't see why I can't maintain a lean, strong body like many 70 year old weightlifters and gymnasts. smile

That's a very fair point, but one that few of us will heed smile

but with the best will in the world, you still age, I'm not about to Google image search septuagenarian weightlifters to prove a point either way, god knows what the Mrs would make of that.

You may look like st at that age but there's growing old gracefully.

Tattooed knuckles, swallows and tears, it's always been a council estate thing. The sleeve thing is relatively new, but that seems to be fashion seen displayed on a considerable amount of the more popular 'gangster rappers'.

I don't fancy taking HGH and testosterone supplements either, is that something that is well researched in terms of the risks ?

A few weeks ago I was on an RAF base, one of the young lads was showing off his new tattoo. You could see a couple of us looking confused as to what it was meant to be it was that st. Next thing all the girls saying how awesome it is I could almost put money on half the lads there now going out to get tattoos.

Well, sure, you could take that, or you could just train and whilst you won't be as big, you'll still be in decent shape. smile

I know of a chap that owns a tattoo shop, it's said that 90% of the women he has tattooed he has banged.
Now that's something to think about.

I think its awful. All these mongs with tattoos on their necks, hands, fingers, wrists, forearms. Thinking they're cool & hard, & the women that they're all like cheryl cole / riahanna.

I wouldn't employ any of them, but fortunately none of them seem to try too hard to get a job so that's not an issue.

The whole tattoo thing is totally out of control now.

At first it was just sailors and prisoners...

Now it's sailors, prisoners, council estate dwellers, hard men, wanna-be hard men, anyone who is in a band, every celebrity, everyone who thinks they are fashionable, punks, goths, rockers, skaters and boarders, extreme sports enthusiasts, hipsters, cool kids, gangsters, students, people having a mid life crisis, any bloke with a stupid 50's style haircut...

Basically everyone.

In a few years time there will be serious money to be made in tattoo removal services I think.

I reckon that by default, I'm now cool because I don't have a tattoo unlike everyone else on the planet smile

Tattoos that are very trendy are certainly risky. I've always felt sorry for the lads with tribal bands etc on their upper arms, which look rather nasty these days. I do however remember these back in the 90's, and how cool they were.. The current tattoo sleeves are now being used by many to cover up old tattoos, but where on earth do you go from here when this too looks naff in a few years...? Very short sited in my mind.
