I worked with a lad who had one of his legs tattooed to look like the Terminators arm when he peels back the skin. It looked pretty smart, but I do wonder what people will say in 20 years time when he's sat on a deckchair on his Saga cruise.

I often think, while they think it looks cool now, how will they look when they're old and wrinkled?!
They'll probably look tattooed and wrinkly instead of just wrinkly. Honestly, who gives a fk.
I don't have any tattoos, I'm completely indifferent to them but that argument against them is the worst one ever.

I found it infuriating listening to a girl recently who is 23, has a child and is on the dole talk about getting a £1,000 "back piece".

The tattoo itself isn't an issue, it's the fact she has £1,000 spare to pay for it without having ever worked despite being perfectly capable.

So yes, the reason behind this must be to do with some sort of unspoken scummer hierarchy.

I know of a chap that owns a tattoo shop, it's said that 90% of the women he has tattooed he has banged.
Now that's something to think about.
So he's just tattooed the one then?

Depends on the tattoo I think.

For ultra council-chic, get an essay in spidery font written on your torso somewhere:

This kind of crap:

people have tattoos for different reason though, some do it to look hard, some for art or even for a reason to remember someone or something.

The old and wronkly arguement is ste, more likely they will look upon their tattos and remember the fun they had over their life.

I have no tattoos, and dont plan on getting any either, the rs has a couple which I wouldnt say I love or hate, she likes them which is all that matters. However I do think their are plenty out there that look stupid and especially facial tattoos.

each to their own though, much like car modyfying, some do it well, others are trash!

People who coo over others tattoos only do it to humour them. It's like the Kings New Clothes - out of their circle of sycophants (ie the real world) they would be sidelined in life, probably without even realising it.
Why close future doors by some daft decision made in youth that lasts forever?
I know a girl in Suffolk who removes tattoos using state of the art lasers and she makes a fortune the kit was nearly £200k.
The truth behind the myth that tattoos are the right thing to do is there in her surgery every day. And in the dole queue.

So nobody who has tattoos works or likes them?

Some very snobby and judgmental people around.

No tattoos no intention of getting any by the way.

If you Dont like them dont get any. Why worry what other people do that doesn't affect you. Very strange.

I'd be interested to know age groups of people in this topic, I think there is possibly a generational gap here too. some quite snobish views on here so far

No snobbery here, just fact and perception. We can all cite the Incredible Tattooed Man who has an amazing job, or 'my mate Dave' who runs a multinational corporation. Im taking about the average under 25 who may have a first job but is unwittingly closing doors for their future.

Fact?

Can you link me to your nationwide peer reviewed study.

What's the percentage of people out of work without tatoos vs with?

Edit , to answer above question 43. No tatoos and nobody in my family gas ever had one despite my father and uncle being in the navy.

Having observed years ago the fashion of wearing/displaying all your wealth to the belief that you were somehow higher up on the estate pecking order by how many gold charms-sovereigns you owned, has this trend now changed to tattoos as in a recent venture this summer to a Spanish costa clearly 2/3rds of the pi55ed up red faced punters enjoyed displaying these modern body enhancements.

Sorry if I've offended any rolled up short sleeved chequered shirt wearing big beard hipsters !
I had my first tattoo in 75, the last in '99, so I'm not part of the current trend, but I was still a little amazed last couple of times I visited England, to see just how many people sport tattoos nowadays. Probably every second guy has some decent sized ink, and every third girl has a tramp stamp or similar.

yes, it is a fashion trend, but unfortunatly it is not like your denim suit, you can't simply leave it in the cupboard when it is suddenly not fashionable.

And as regards the obligatory 'old and wrinkled' comments we inevitably see on threads like this, I'm a little worried by what my normal skin will look like when I'm 80, not really what the tattoos will look like.

You'd be closing doors as well by saying things like this, are you 2 years old?

For the record, no body art on me but I'm not against others having it, their skin, their choice. Who are you to judge or say if it's right or wrong.

Maybe one or two of the anti tattoo lot should go over and post in the 'do you have a tattoo' thread.

Then see how you get on.

It seems these threads pop up every few months now, we had the same not that long back.

It will certainly affect your chances of employment if they are visible. I don't have tatoos but spent a decade in the Navy so know plenty of people that have them (its not as common as you would think though).

Rightly or wrongly people without tatoos will form an opinion about people with tatoos, much like any other unusual body modification. Its just human nature.
