Are tattoos the latest version of council estate gold.
Discussion
Clearly some vintage PH snobbery going on here.
...but someone asked for the data.
It is scarce for the UK but this US survey said...
"a recent nationally representative telephone survey of 500 adults aged 18 to 50 found that the strongest predictor of being tattooed among members of the general public was having spent three or more days in jail prior to the survey, an association that was particularly pronounced for respondents who had tattoos in highly visible places, such as on the face, neck, or hands.
The study also found a lower level of educational attainment among adults who had tattoos. Together, these findings led the author to conclude that “the overall scope of the tattoo renaissance is rather limited to a narrow group of serious collectors and that tattooing has not been overwhelmingly embraced by those who are older, with high levels of education or higher incomes”"

I think its awful. All these mongs with tattoos on their necks, hands, fingers, wrists, forearms. Thinking they're cool & hard, & the women that they're all like cheryl cole / riahanna.
I wouldn't employ any of them, but fortunately none of them seem to try too hard to get a job so that's not an issue.
That's half the reason. To keep your benefits you have to apply for and go to interviews not even Asda is going to give a guy with a gangster tat on his face a job job done benefits for life. I wouldn't employ any of them, but fortunately none of them seem to try too hard to get a job so that's not an issue.

Interesting. I know lots of people with tattoos, and only one of them has ever been in jail.
Indeed.I get some people dont understand/like or get tattoos, thats fine, each to their own, what always amuses me is the fact they need to declare it so loudly and attempt to condescend to those who do have them.
Yes Face/Hand and neck tattoos are daft if they are going to affect your job, in some cases they won't though not all jobs are office based and need to have no visible tats.
As for the getting old comment thats my favourite of all, I'd rather take a few risks and sit in the old peoples home with my st saggy tattoos but looking back on a life lived to the fullest I could than be sat there wishing I had done more as I let all my decisions be based on whether I MAY regret it in 10/20/30 years.

I look at a tattoo and I think:
a) cheap/slutty
and/or
b) criminality.
(Exception: Armed Forces and similar on men).
I also shake my head a bit: The especially elaborate ones will look appalling in some years. "WHAT are you thinking?"

That says a LOT more about you than it does about them

Now its time to pickle your brain.... I'm ex-armed forces but, the majority of my ink has been done since I have been a civvie....a) cheap/slutty

b) criminality.

I have never been in jail, or indeed had my collar felt. You wouldn't even know I had a tattoo if you passed me in the street (unless I was just wandering around in a t-shirt but it's England and the chance is a fine thing).
Maybe when people look at your Lambo (for example) they either think....
a). Small cock
and/or
b). Drug dealer
Maybe you should judge people when you talk to them, not from your small-minded and juvenile pre-judgement.
Anyway, Merry Christmas!

What's arguably worse than huge glaring tattoos, is the recent trend for wearing half of Screwfix's stock through various bits of one's face. Especially those fking ridiculous ear stretching plugs.
Recent?Jesus, you really are an old man, aren't you?!

I'd even listen to my mum over you!I have a 12mm gauge, when at work I wear a skin coloured silicone plug and you would not notice it unless you were actively looking for it.... AND I have tattoos.... AND I have a decent job.
Now go finger yourself over your little train set!
aaaaand breathe......!

Odd response? its not about "giving a fk" as you so eloquently phrased it. It is about tastes and life choices as far as I'm concerned. In my opinion, tattoos are tasteless and have very negative associations, however, it would appear, that my character is being questioned for having this opinion?
12mm is nothing. I was on about the people who have 3" dinner plates swinging from their lobes. I bet your tattoos don't encompass your neck either?
You think I'm snobbish, I just think about all the people who cannot help their looks (ie skin conditions, birthmarks or disfigurement) who would love to have the looks that other people self-mutilate in the name of "expression"

I like them. Well, some of them any way. I'm less inclined to the idea of carving up your body for scars mainly because it must hurt a lot.
I very much 'get' the idea of marking your body with life events; names images, groups are all part of a basic almost primeval need to mark life in a very physical way.
