Never put on 123456 - IIRC its estimated several hundred tickets would have to share the winnings.
Now, 123457... that's my numbers LOL..

I do the lottery now and again when Im feeling pissed off but am by no means a big spender

My (undeserving) colleague has recently bagged a sizable amount of cash

Obviously this is great (aaaargh) but Im wondering what it means statistically for me

As I see it there are 2 main options:

1) Lightning never strikes in the same place twice so I should stop wasting my money
2) There is some magic good luck floating around work and I should fill my boots with tickets before it evaporates

Comments welcome smile

The current plan is to continue buying tickets on an infrequent basis but Im curious as to what the celebral PH opinion is
Clearly you live in a lucky area or work in a lucky workplace. You should buy more tickets if you'd like a greater chance of winning, or reduce your spend if you think you don't need to capitalise on this fortune. Or continue gambling at the same rate for a constant likelihood of success.

Ie just like the rest of the world playing a lottery smile

A friend of mine won as part of a works (Post Office) syndicate a couple of years ago - the only time that 5 + 1 number paid out more than 6 numbers I believe. He and his wife were both in it, so that helped!

Then about a month later got one of the £20,000.00 raffle prizes too - he was in that one on his own.

How odd, it would take me months/years to give out some of the money especially those kinds of sums - the pleasure you could get doing so much good.

I think we know the same person, I might know him better from the sounds of things, he is pretty happy as it goes, rumors are interesting things.. I think some people just hope he isn't happy..

This. Comfort yourself with the knowledge that if your colleague really is a bit of a plum, history tells us that winning big tends to exaggerate peoples existing characteristics rather than modify them. For example that chav in Norfolk who blew 10m on drugs & cars & the double glazing guy in Hastings who fell out with his whole family.

Name begins with N?

I really hope he is happy. He was a top bloke. Fixed the rusted cills on my MX5 a couple of weeks before he won!

Not everyone is capable of dealing with sums of money of that magnitude.

A few million and they might likely have been happy as Larry. £108m though, that's a different league. Not only are you now highly likely to have means well in excess of what your friends could afford (£25k holiday isn't even something you need to be too bothered about as you can have another next month if you wish, etc.) be you are also now way out of the league of those acquaintances you had who have a few million. All of a sudden you are in a totally alien environment and there is almost no one who you can turn to who has any idea of the turmoil that such fortune brings. They are too busy thinking how lucky you are and not having a clue why you are so depressed...

If it is the BMW racer chap that you are talking about then I would suggest that this is a major part of their problem. A good move for them, considering their interests, would perhaps be to have a year in GT Cup and then a season or two in BGT. At least there they will get the chance to meet likeminded people who have an idea how to deal with such wealth on a personal level and also there are a few who have made large fortunes and have had to learn to deal with the issues themselves.

That sounds like a lack of imagination to me!
I will never understand this as long as I have a hole in my arse. How can you be bored with £108 million in the bank? I would be worried that I would not have enough time to do everything I want to (39 years old) That's if I didn't succumb to the default PH Coke and hookers death first. wink. If people are unhappy with these vast amounts of money I will quite happily take it off their hands.

I've always wondered how much I'd have to win to give up working.

At the moment, about a hundred quid...

Yup that is most definitely him! He is still the same guy he has always been, had him looking over my E36 the other day looking at some arch work that needs doing. Still a top bloke, still happy to chat to his mates etc.

I can see your point and I can't see your point. How the f@ck would £108 million make you depressed. I would be happy as a pig in ste. I think it is a lack of imagination in a lot of cases. I would spend some of my money on charities that's for sure but only charities in this country as I think that's only right. I would also not give them the money as it would just be wasted, instead I would ask them what they want and then buy it, if they didn't agree to that then no money.

Very good to hear. My MD was annoyed when he won coz he looked after all of his cars and now he doesn't! hehe

What tasty stuff does he have then? I heard he was after a P1....

Aye, and I think one of the biggest key steps to being able to deal with a really large win is to tick the "no publicity" box.

One thing I've always wondered is what happens logistically speaking when you find out you've just won the jackpot?

Iirc, any retailer will pay out up to a specific low limit, and I think Post Offices pay out for middling prizes, but if you've won the jackpot, do you have to get the ticket to Camelot in Watford or something?

Imagine going out for a few beers on a Friday night then checking your numbers on the way home, only to be told your ticket is worth £50m, and you've got to keep it safe until Monday morning! hehe

Haha yeah I know a couple of people who were gutted for the same reason, me included!

He has lots of tasty stuff, i shouldn't really give out too much but there is a McLaren, a very well sorted classic Ford Cosworth amongst others.

Still wears the same green hoody lol!
