Talking about the song "cats in the cradle" and Mrs 2CV asks who it's by. When I tell her Cat Stevens she says "oh I think I've heard of her"!
hmm no it`s not
Interesting conudrum : It was performed by Cat Stevens, who is no more.
No. It wasn't.
It was written and originally recorded by Harry Chapin but I believe it was covered by Cat Stevens.
Don't think he ever covered it
ah bks. I'll hold my hand up then. Still funny.

Cat Stevens is alive and well, but goes by the name Yusuf Islam these days.
That was sort-of my point, but subsequent posters have pointed out that my memory was faulty, and he didn't cover it after all.
we must have had the same brain fart

I'm well aware who wrote it as I have the original by Harry Chapin, but what has Ugly Kid Joe got to do with it when it's been covered by dozens of other singers? I gave the OP the benefit of the doubt and said I believe Cat Stevens covered it not that he did cover it. I should have said "may have". And I'm not confusing it with Father and Son which I know well.
Mea culpa.
The Ugly Kid Joe cover is possibly the most well known version.

Son and his girlfriend went a walk round the harbour with Granny.

G/F noticed the tide was out so all the boats were low in the harbour .

"Oh, what happens to all the boats when the tide comes in ?"

MIL (incredulous) " They float dear "

It wasn't. Confusion caused by Stevens releasing an ALBUM called Cat's Cradle.

I think you may have slightly missed the point.

Yes, you can't expect people that aren't too interested in cars like we are to understand the differences between FR, MR, FF layouts etc, but this woman was under the impression that there are cars out on the road there that steer like forklift trucks.

Yes, before you get pedantic, some cars so steer slightly with their rear wheels too, I had one.

But thinking that your car isn't RWD because it's the front wheels that steer, seems fit this thread.
No, I don't think I've missed the point. I'm almost certain nobody out there thinks a car could be steered by the rear wheels. Not even someone who can't identify which end is driven.

Again, it's this little car anorak bubble some seem to live in which is clouding your interpretation.
You have very much missed the point.

It was a little damp the other morning and Mrs Flip is driving the kids to school and whilst pulling away from the lights applies the accelerator a little keenly in her i30. Cue a little wheelspin and then the fantastic gem of asking why only the front wheels were spinning.

Granted not an all time classic but I least thought she knew what front wheel drive was.

Not so much a classic but more an annoyance. The following conversation happens on a regular basis.

Her: *turns away* "mumble"
Me: "Sorry?"
Her: *stays turned away, holds hairgrip in mouth whilst resetting hairdo* "mumble mumble mumble"
Me: *moves in really close this time* "I'm sorry, I still didn't hear you darling."
Her, perfectly audibly and exasperated: "Oh, it doesn't MATTER!"

Maybe she thought Ned Kelly was in Kelly's Heroes? (He was a sort-of cowboy who wore a metal helmet).

She thought it = she said it = I heard it = I've done it

Sometimes I haven't done all the things she has thought about, which is an ongoing source of annoyance for her.

Are you trying to suggest that using the shortened version of Mongol or Mongoloid which is what Down's syndrome kids were called years ago Ito describe the shortcomings of others is ok? You probably think saying Spaz is ok too.
Way to put a downer on proceedings.

See the link bird wise there

Ask her if it was Westfield.
