Classic from the Mrs! Vol 2
Discussion
Other half turned round to me night before last, "Shall I go clear the ice off my car for the morning?".
I must have given her a look as she followed up with, "Just so it's not as bad when I'm out there early tomorrow".
I then explained that it's more than likely going to frost over again in the following 8 or so hours until she went out!

Round the inlaws for christmas. MiL on the phone to her brother and speaks to 4 yr old neice:
MiL: so what did santa bring you?
Niece: he brought me a chicken!
MiL: wow are you going to cut its head off and eat it for dinner?
Niece: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Few hours later the OH is browsing facebook and theres a pic of said neice holding her KITTEN...
Mil feeling pretty silly, we're off up there for NY so it'll be interesting...

Just woke up and found a live stream of nasa live from the international space station. Just got asked this after we watch an interview from a zero G astronaut.
"Have parts of the ship got gravity"
Oh how I laughed.
"I'm sure I've seen it"
She goes and 'ok-googles' it to be sure.
In a similar vein my missus used to think that in scenes from films like Gravity where the ACTORS are pretending to float around in zero G, they were doing that for real. I said no they use wires as they aren't going to send actors into space and we can't re-create zero G on earth. However she was adamant that seen in on TV once and scientists had managed to create some sort of anti-gravity device so that we could simulate zero G on earth and the best use for it was for ACTORS to pretend they were in space!"Have parts of the ship got gravity"

Ahem... the Vomit Comet; I think some scenes in Apollo 13 used this technique.Einion Yrth said:

Ahem... I'm pretty sure that the vomit comet cannot create zero-g on the ground. It has to take off from the Earth, climb to altitude, and then fly a parabolic arc to create the zero-g effect on board.
I took, "on earth" to mean not going through the inconvenience of accelerating someone to 7 and a half KmS^-1 or so. I think possibly the fact that VC flights have been used to create Zero G scenes without sending actors into orbit somewhat invalidates your original gripe, but if you're that desperate not to be wrong on the internet, go ahead. Yes I was aware of the Vomit Comet before I posted,
1) Not really relevant as it's not true zero G
2) It only last 30 seconds and everything is in freefall including the camera man etc, yes it has been used to shoot very brief scenes but kind of difficult to shoot a whole movie like Gravity using that which is why they did most of that film using wire work and CGI.
Besides my missus wasn't talking about that, she actually thought they'd managed to create zero G on earth but I know how tempting internet point scoring can be on PH, 3 people replying within minutes hoping to prove how clever they are.

Free-fall is free-fall whether from flying a parabola or from falling towards the earth but going fast enough to miss.I must however apologise for misattributing GlenRobbo's post to you.
smiley tends to make you seem a bit aggressive, just saying.

Passive aggressive is the thing on PH don't you know. I must however apologise for misattributing GlenRobbo's post to you.

Just get a bit tired of people trying to prove a point all the time, did it really need 3 people telling me I was wrong when most should have seen from the context of my post that I wasn't talking about a plane that falls for 30 seconds.

I asked the Mrs an innocent question about what the weather would be like tomorrow, the reply I got:
"How would I know, I'm not John Fish"
