In fairness to the teachers, most of the ones I know do a fair bit of work in the evenings, so their total hours worked in the year aren't that different to a standard job.

I still take the mickey about them finishing at 3:30 though.

My wife is training for the London Marathon, and this morning has been out on a long training run.

She has aching legs now, as you can imagine, so being the loving caring husband I am, I have poured a nice warm bath for her.

She's sat down stairs still despite me repeatedly telling here it's poured and ready.

Me: come on, you don't want it to go cold
Her: I've just got to do this (not sure what "this" is)
Me: It'll get cold, come on
Her: well did you pour a hot one?
Me: yes you know I did
Her: well it won't go cold then will it
Me: confused
Never heard the word 'pour' in respect to filling a bath before: Run a bath, fill a bath, draw a bath even but never pour. Yer learn summat every day!

I've never screamed at them at parents evenings, I'm lucky enough to have never had kids.

I have met teachers though & not one of them works hard or does long hours. Massively overpaid job currently, back when they knew their subjects it was different. But now you've got a generation of fools who were taught by fools & by knowing nothing they are ensuring the next generation are also fools.
Well you'd know better than anyone, not having kids and all... biggrin

Well I've known a few teachers socially & they always have more free time than people with proper jobs, that suggests to me they don't do much work at home in the afternoon evening after leaving school.

i know a handful of teachers and they all very long hours. Understandably, they get really fked off with people saying all teachers are lazy. I'm not sure where these mystery lazy teachers work, but it clearly isn't in the modern education system which requires teachers to do as much admin as they do teaching. Except that all gets in the way of a good old misinformed rant about 3pm finishes and 754 holidays in a given year. Oh but i know loads of teachers and they're ALL paedophiles, work shy, benefit scum, immigrants and they've got AIDS. In other news, how can i be racist, some of my best friends are black people.

You've never poured a bath? I do love the way there are so many ways to say the same thing in the English language biggrin

Probably dates back to when it was literally poured - into a tub next to the fire with water from the range.

I've known a few teachers. Married to one for 6 years, who never brought work home.

Lived with another couple, [sleep with one, & they kind of become self perpetuating], for another 5 years. Neither did much school work after 3.00 PM, & one of them didn't do much housework after 3.00 PM either.

The last one hated the classroom, & managed to get a transfer to administration. Went back to the classroom after she discovered how many more hours she had to put in at an office job.

My parents were both teachers and I'm sure used to average at least 70 hours a week during term time. They certainly did vastly more hours for significantly less money than I do working in the private sector.

On the other hand they now have pensions I can only dream of.

That really doesn't tie up with my OH. She works ~80 hours a week, every week, including holidays. Primary School Phase Leader.

ME: Don't forget, it's parent's evening tomorrow.
HER: Oh. Is it in the evening?

How can this sort of thing, constantly, not drive someone clean round the bend?
it's a valid question, the appointments start just after school finishes in some schools!
That is the evening to those poor over worked teachers who do 8-3:30 for 9 months each year.
Never a truer word spoken by someone who hasn't a f**king clue.

My missus is a secondary school teacher, and she's in the office by 0730, and is generally out of the place around 1800. Then its home to sit and mark books and plan lessons, so on an average weeknight she's lucky to have an hour to herself before its off to bed and back into work. More marking and planning at the weekend mean a teachers job extends way beyond school hours.
