I met a chap a while back who used to commute from Swansea to Minehead every day for an 0800 start.

Currently a 1 mile walk along the deserted streets of my home town into a rising sun. Luxury.

The 2 longest commutes I've ever had were under 8 miles which was cycled usually depending on my whim.

You long distance chaps are nuts, talk about have your cake and eat it! tongue out

Loads of my mates work in London.

It is over 100 miles each way, have to change either at Norwich or at Cambridge, takes 2h20 door to door.

I just couldn't do it, I used to work 45 miles away, and Norfolk miles so usually 1h20min drive each way, and that was enough.

When I started my own business I made sure I lived close by, I walk down the stairs.
So nice leaving the kitchen with my coffee at 8.58am and being home at 5.02pm.

I'm with the own business and short commute brigade.
Out of the house in the morning after putting the kids on the school bus. The cup of tea is still hot by the time I open up the workshop.
Back to the kitchen for mid morning tea, and again for lunch, and then tea for me and the kids when they get home. Sometimes we even manage an afternoon brew.

This is following a spell commuting to Bristol (not too bad), Swansea (50 miles 50 minutes almost all the time), and before that Cardiff 35 miles 45 mins.
Spent 14 years doing those commutes, and quite enjoy the small stuff. Trouble is now I hardly spend any time at all in a car. Less than 10k total in 4 different cars, and most of that for fun.

Mines from Doncaster to near Weymouth. I go on a Sunday night and back on a Friday. Barely better than the 3.5 years when it was Doncaster to Plymouth. I hate it.

Mine is 50 miles each way. From Leeds to Manchester..... M62 nightmare! As some have mentioned it's the not so much the mileage but the actual time taken. Fortunately, I'm able to claim expenses back so it's just about tolerable

I do 1 hour 25 minutes each way into London and back.

However, it means i get to live in a very nice place, instead of a one bedroom flat. Also ~55 of that commute is sitting and reading or computing or watching something, I don't mind it at all and it means I don't have to fanny about on a computer when I get home. Also about ~15 minutes of it is a fun empty back road to drive on. I do get fairly tired during the week, but I do love being in the countryside instead of central London.

I was speaking to a couple of blokes the other day who are down my way contracting. When I asked them where there digs were they said they didn't have any as they commuted everyday.

Out of interest I looked on Google maps as they said they lived in Great Wakering, which is in East Essex.
I worked out they were doing about 190 miles a day, or 950 miles a week!

fk that for a game of soldiers eeknutssilly

40 miles each way from 10 miles east of Plymouth to the other side of Exeter. Takes about 45 mins to an hour on average which is not bad as the ten mile commute I used to do in london could take the same time. I sometimes take the scenic route across dartmoor if I take the mx5.

After 3 yrs its beginning to get on my nerves. I work 4 days a week and have Wednesday off which breaks up the week nicely. If they offered me 5 days a week I would refuse unless they helped me out with fuel and servicing costs.
