The phrase "self fulfilling prophecy" springs to mind.

I am extremely sceptical of anyone going to psychics and such like, but one such individual who my mum saw once some years ago is surely worthy of a post.
I like that story, and it is an example of what's good about this thread.
The reality is that all these events are second-hand stories from people who aren't sceptical but know you are. They will have been dressed up a little - not full of lies, just had the explainable parts ironed out a bit and suspicious parts of it not even noticed without a cynical eye - to the point you are intrigued.

It can of course be explained, but it's a good story nevertheless.

While living in Scotland for a year work placement, I used to sometimes go for a walk in the evening.

Approaching a phone box it started ringing. Normally I'd just ignore this but something drove me to answer it...

Was my boyfriend of the time. He thought he had dialled the house number.

Given the population of the world these sorts of coincidences are bound to happen; on this occasion it happened to you.

ETA Were the two numbers similar, or was the ex bf innumerate?

Agree. All the time billion to one coincidences happen just due to the sheer number of possible permutations in everything.
To me, though, it doesn't make it any less interesting when something like this does happen. Its not particularly spooky or supernatural, just a brilliant coincidence.

That's exactly what I was going to say. Exactly.

Not a supernatural one, just a small coincidence that made me smile...

A few years ago I bought a MK1 Fiesta as a bit of a project to get a bit more confident with the spanners. To make things a little easier I bought a second (probably fourth, fifth or sixth...) hand Haynes manual from ebay.
When it got delivered I opened it up and it had my Grandad's name, address and signature written in on the first page. He'd owned a Mk1 fiesta when they were new, and had given his manual to a charity shop when he got rid of it, a few years later and the manual ended up in my hands smile

When it didn't make sense because I spoke about myself in the first and third person? Yeah I can see how that would be true.

An interesting thread.

Before I tell my tale I should say I'm a terrible cynic, an aetheist & am firmly of the belief that you're born, you live, you die. The end.

About 4 years ago a mate & I had been to a gig, got back to mine & had a few more beers. We'd also done some coke so weren't in the slightest bit sleepy so decided to take my dog for a walk along the canal towpath.

It was a misty night but with a fairly full moon so visibility was quite good, & after we'd done a couple of uneventful miles we saw a figure up ahead standing on the towpath. As we approached we could see he was a bloke in his 30s, dark hair & dressed in a camo jacket, camo trousers, black boots & a black rucksack on his back.

This was about half 3 in the morning so we thought it odd but weren't too worried as we're both big lads who can take care of ourselves, so we just walked past him close enough to touch & I said something sort of jovial like 'Evening, nice night for it!', but he didn't say a word or make any eye contact with us.

After we got about 30 yards past him I noticed my dog wasn't with us, so looked back & saw he was about 50 yards away, down on his haunches & staring at this bloke, I called him a few times but he wouldn't come, so I went back past the bloke (who hadn't moved at all) to where my dog was.

As I got to him he was making low growling & mewling noises & looked very agitated as he stared at the man, & the only way I could get him to move was to put his lead on him & drag him past, which he did by taking the furthest route around this still stationary bloke, & once we'd gone past he kept looking behind him long after the man was out of sight.

I still to this day essentially believe that it was just some weird bloke on the canal in the middle of the night as he certainly looked real, but what we can't explain is the dogs reaction.

He's a big soppy, friendly greyhound who hasn't once reacted to a human anything like that manner before or since, so his reaction to whoever was on the towpath is utterly perplexing to me & my mate.

I should say that we weren't particularly hammered that night so this wasn't some sort of odd collective hallucination, as walking for an hour or so on a cold November night does clear the head somewhat.

This one isn't about me but my grandad.

Many years ago when my grandad was about 15 or 16 he was working as an apprentice for SWEB (South Wales Electric Board) and had been sent to work in Swansea, about 25 miles from where he lived. So not being able to drive he was living in digs in a house in the St Thomas area of Swansea, and was staying in a room over looking the grave yard of a church. One night he looked out the window and thought he saw a figure in a white dress walking in the graveyard. He dismissed it and went to bed. A few nights later he saw the figure again, but again only a glimpse, but this time he knew he had seen it and it spooked him a bit. He mentioned it to the land lady the next day who said that he was imagining it and that the company was working the young lads too hard and he was over tired. That weekend he went home and upon returning to the digs on Sunday evening he was greeted with an apology from the land lady, who had mention what he had seen to someone else, and was told that a local old man had died recently, and everynight his widow would go to the graveyard in her night dress to say good night.

I first heard the story when I was about 12 or so and it spooked me a bit, but now that I'm a bit older I think its quite a nice story.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

But this is a good one.

My brother lives in a small town in Spain pretty much in the middle of nowhere. It has a small bar where on a Sunday they have a bit of live music and most of the locals/ex pats turn up. One of my brothers friends turns up with a couple she has met in another village and has invited them over for the night & everyone gets chatting. They get chatting with my brother.

"We live in **********,"
"Oh really, my brother and Mum lived there in the 80s,"
"Oh we were there then, must have been teenagers. What school did he go to?"
"It was called ** *******, I think,"
"Oh good grief, what was his name?"
"The Hypno-Toad, you couldn't miss him, green and astoundingly ugly,"

Yep, the wife was one of my girl friends from back in 82-83 who I carried a torch for a few years. Luckily my brother didn't put his foot in it....

Never seen anything clear enough to describe anything. But about 15 years ago on a Friday night in the Talbot pub inbetween Bristol and Bath I seen something that still can't be explained logically.

The Talbot is about 300+ years old and is on the main road between the two cities, so loads of history. On a busy packed Friday night sat in there listening to live music (I was sober/driving), and in my line-of-sight was a table filled with cutlery and condiments. All of a sudden (and with nobody within touching distance) two ketchup bottles started spraying upwards and some knives & forks tipped over and fell onto the floor. I looked at the bouncer who also witnessed and approached it to clear the mess up, he looked at me and we both went a bit white. It was one of those "did that actually just happen" moments.

The second one. About 10 years ago I was living in Australia at the time with my folks. I was suffering with homesickness and was considering making the move back to UK at some point the following year. In January of that year I had dream about my deceased grandad who I'd never met, with him writing "August 28th" on a chalkboard. At that point I had no idea what it meant. I told my folks about it and they didn't have a clue either. Then after many months of trying to finalise stuff and sell my car it finally sold on August 20th and so I popped straight to the travel agent to book my flight and the only flight available was August 28th.
