A favourite quip from a Marine who fought in the Falklands....
We used to call the locals 'a Benny' after the actor in Crossroads, 'cos they wore woolie hats all the time.
Our Officer told us to knock it off, so we called them 'Stillies'.
The Rupert asked, after a good while, why they were called Stillies?
Well Sir, It's because they still look like Benny.
The squaddies started to call them "Andies".
Eventually a Rupert summoned up the courage to ask why they were now calling the locals Andies
"And he's still a Benny, sir"
s, a few of us who are ex forces and have done tours in the Falklands starting calling them stills, our boss still hasn't got a clue!

This evening I discovered the previous thread to this one and it provided me with a full evening's-worth of entertainment. And Matt, I've never come across er, never seen any of your postings on PH. If it's any consolation and you're still around, I rather like a pair of red trousers! Really not sure about the waistcoat though. Perhaps in the intervening seven years, you've worn it out rather than worn it out. If you see what I mean...
