Happy birthday banners made out of bed sheets, hung on fences or bridges.
And those metallic balloons or worse still giant balloon numbers.

Hen parties with stick cocks and L Plates. Stag weekends which are themed with fancy dress.

This. Exactly this.

I can only seem to enjoy the BBC boxedin

TV - BBC news 24, BBC 1 or BBC 2

Radio - Radio 4 or sometimes Radio 2 (used to love it but a combination of me getting oder and more boring and them trying to create a seat for the Radio 1 graduates.

My old Boss used to call the terrestrial TV channels (1-5) "Council telly".

This always confused me, as I'm pretty sure most council houses will have some kind of Sky package in order to get the most use out of their 50 inch plasma and day time viewing.

My parents used to have a shop. On one side was the council estate on the other a private estate. Guess which one had a Sat dish on nearly every house and which had almost none.

Which reminds me of that old joke;

Q: What's brown and sloppy and hangs from a satellite dish?

A: A council house

yes

Council House estates were prime hunting grounds for NYNEX sales reps (aka Virgin Media) when they first opened in the UK 25 years ago. Their ideal customers were unemployed people who stayed at home all day.

Middle aged to old BMW. Powerfully built, tattooed driver, right arm out stretched on the steering wheel, left hand on the gear leaver/shifter, leaning toward the open drivers window (air conditioning broken). Council.
