So along with having never heard of TK Maxx or Argos a couple of weeks ago, you've now never heard of Ola Jordan or presumably Strictly Come Dancing?

It's a show that's on TV in the corner of your drawing room. The TV is the thing that looks like a black rectangle canvas in a frame and has moving pictures on sometimes - mainly watched by people not existing on your social plane.
It was a perfectly good question from Stickyfinger. I had no idea what an Ola was either. But was too shy to ask.

Seriously, I have no idea either.
Please do not tell me.
Yes, I have heard of that dancing 'program', and I know far more than I ever cared to. The advertisements for it are cringe worthy enough for anyone.

I didn't either, but a quick Google image search gave some good results!

Your spelling of "programme": Council. Did you mean disinterested or uninterested?

"program/programme": occupational hazard combined with a considerable dose of laziness and the influence of working with and reading documentation written by my erstwhile 'neighbours' to the south.
The intentional lowering of one's own standards so as to become comprehensible to one's audience may on occasion be necessary in my experience.

"disinterested or uninterested": Take your pick. Clearly I could not easily use both in the same sentence, though I grant you; "uninterested" expresses the sentiment more accurately.

I will not, as so often happens in this thread, return with anything along the lines of "pedantry = council" or such nonsense.
I stand corrected.

I had the misfortune to catch it once by mistake. The men act up strutting around like prize cocks while the women show off their (quite nice, actually) bodies tip-toeing around the men. It's extremely nasty and glittery.

I do this because I'm not Christian, and don't celebrate it as any sort of religious holiday.

We've had the Xmas one before - apparently it's ok according to some ancient traditionsmile

I'm half expecting someone to ask "What's Christmas?"...

Agree with the tree decoration observation.

Could be council to be unaware that the original Christmas stories are in koine Greek and the 'X' is the 'chi' at the beginning of 'christos' in said language.

But the Xmas tree baubles defo.

Oh dear, is 'defo' council?

No, but in Essex 'Caahnsiw' is translated from 'Council'

'Illiterate tt' on the other hand has no translation due to the number of syllables.
