I do this because I'm not Christian, and don't celebrate it as any sort of religious holiday.
Course you don't. Still take time off though, don'cha?

Sorry, revealing my bias towards the 'let me have it all' civil servants.

We've had the Xmas one before - apparently it's ok according to some ancient traditionsmile

I'm half expecting someone to ask "What's Christmas?"...
I know that one....it is when we have the poor folk round and let them eat some meat and drink ale on their one day off a year
And there was me thinking you still lived with your mother, given that you don't appear to get out much - either that or you are a high court judge wink

No, but in Essex 'Caahnsiw' is translated from 'Council'

'Illiterate tt' on the other hand has no translation due to the number of syllables.
"cant" is an acceptable alternative.

So far I've never had the option to work it. I wouldn't have an issue if I was asked to though. Can't imagine I ever would be though, unless working something specifically for Christmas day.

Dunno, chap. I wouldn't dream of following up with so called "celebrities".

That scouse lass from the Atomic Kitten group was lush back in the day. Sarah McLoughlin or something?

'The "-mas" part is from the Latin-derived Old English word for Mass,[1] while the "X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Χριστός which comes into English as "Christ"'

I always thought it was shortened to X as monks got fed up with writing Christ all the time in their books and used a cross shape instead. The Greek reason sounds much more plausible!

Well you can't get much more council than the Greeks - lazing around all day relying on handouts - so therefore Xmas is officially "council".

All 3 for me, but the comments annoy the hell out of me, they all think it's because it's the St Georges flag, no you tts, it's because he's taken a listed building and made a substantial change to it's appearance.

He has made it look like a pub to avoid as well, so congratulations to him on that front, no 'English breakfast served here' sign would get me in there.

I assume the sign was a bit gaudy or council to boot, otherwise, that part does seem a little harsh.

C'mon, the Wombles don't even qualify for "social housing". Can't mention the dreadful title of this thread in Wimbledon you know rolleyes
I escaped that festering pool of pompous yuppies and wannabes a dozen years ago.
There are few Wombles living there now. Even after a dozen years in residence in the village, I did not feel qualified to refer to myself as one.
Do take care, there was always some considerable distinction between the 'town' and 'The Village'.
