Now gentlemen, the purpose of this thread I believe was to have a few laughs at the expense of those who (by their own lazy choices) are less fortunate.
That would surely involve talking a considerable load of old bks?
I must add at this point that many of the contributors have managed a splendid job of it, indicating considerable practice I shouldn't doubt.

If I may stick my head above the parapet... I have a friend who worked at Lidl on their graduate scheme and, unless things have changed, the fruit and veg is a total lottery due to the way it is kept before it goes on to the shop floor. I have never found it that good quality and it has always seemed to have a very short lifespan.

In all fairness, I think they have upped their game somewhat.All food has a short 'lifespan' once it makes it as far as my larder or refrigerator, but I typically find the meat products have a considerably longer use by date than the mainstream supermarkets, and nothing has so far gone off, which has been a problem with others.
The quantity and choice is a bit hit and miss sometimes, and the selection of mainstream British brands is considerably less, but once you know the local shop, you can generally plan what to get there, and what is required from Sainsbury's or some other, which is necessary in any case.
It is certainly a noticeable saving.
The mix of people is 'interesting', but surprisingly un-council on average. Nothing like ASDA as others have noted.
Don't get me wrong, when I'm in the UK I shop at Lidl and Aldi quite a bit, I've got no issue with most of their stuff. But I've never been a big fan of their fruit and veg, and my friend had told me that they don't have chilled warehouses, so it's off the delivery truck and straight onto the shop floor when fruit and veg is delivered. And if it's busy and more people are on the tills, it can lead to the fresh produce sitting around before going out. The ASDA in Clapham Junction is much rougher than the Lidl on Acre Lane
