I got home last night after an easy day's work and a hard session in the gym..... to a plate of rice and lentils from Iceland.

I'm certain that the rice was birdseye but I don't know whether the lentils were branded or Iceland's own... but it was as nice as any rice or lentils from a non-council supermarket.

I assumed it was part of a meal deal from M&S until she told me!
We asked 100 members of the public to name 'a council food'.

You said "Lentils".

Our survey said "Err Err".

Yet more chronic ignorance.
1. It is Iceland not Island. It's a not very clever pun on the fact that everything they sell is frozen. "Ice" you see.
2. Unless it is the high-end private label range (Tesco Finest, Sainsburys Taste the difference) then private label is ALWAYS more council than a proper brand (unless you are in Waitrose, M&S, Harrods, Selfridges, Whole Foods or Fortnums).
3. Iceland egg fried rice is £2.31 per kg (£1.50 for 650g).
4. Tesco egg fried rice is £2.50 per kg (£1.50 for 600g).
5. Birdseye doesn't even do plain egg fried rice, it's "Fragrant Golden Vegetable Rice" at £4.61 per kg (£1.75 per 380g).

This makes Birdseye almost exactly 100% less council than Iceland.

I think I'm fairly council, but even I can make my own egg fried rice. Frozen rice?! FFS!

I pass on the way to a neighboring town a V12 engined Daimler X300 LWB. It's shabby, missing a wheel Centre parked up on not the best street near a crapoy boozer. It is full council. I so hope the engine gearbox and electrics hold out long enough for it to end up one day once again on a gravel drive of a nice house.

As for MG ZTs? Mine was a high mike V6 that I got when I needed a big cheap 'van' during a house renovation. X Power stainless steel exhaust, X Power green calipers and flip paint. I think it knocked 100k off the price of the house and in the brief time I owned it rattled windows with its Zorst. I never thought of it a council. More a middle class girl who'd made some bad choices in life......OK I guess it was council but a bit of dirt does you no harm!
As a recent MGF owner I joined a couple of modern MG type groups on Facebook in order to keep an eye on any decent parts etc. During which time I was able to see the sort of "enthusiast" that they draw these days. It is predominantly made up of men in their 30s/40s who have stuck as many V6 badges, DRLs and MG decals onto their ZTs as possible. Occasionally an overweight woman makes it through and flaunts her highly accessorised (pink, naturally) TF 1.6, at which point the men work themselves into a frenzy and drop in all sorts of needless, inappropriate and often not-very-good double entendres.

I should be clear though; I like the ZT and would happily own one, but they are a bit council.

Yes, I realise Facebook is council too. Shoot me.

I take it you checked my profile. Long time F and TF owner. Sadly the prices have gone below council to the (almost) small change level.

There is a core who are not council, who are into the design, and tasteful modifications.

There was a site I used to frequent where there was far too much "Fnarr Fnarr, I went out topless yesterday." Quite tragic comments. "Can someone adviser me on my big end". Etc.

Sadly forums for the car are almost dead which is a shame because despit the innuendo knackers there was a huge level of knowledge and help there.

Now as you say, it's all on Facebook with more than its fair share of ynos who clearly rely on the local authority to source their accommodation.

is Saddo an insult in this case ?
I am still amused how people can be either shocked or insulted by another not knowing what a bucket end shop sells/is called.....what some half witted bint in sparkles is called or for that matter what "pink BBC" programme she is on....funny that on a "What is Council" thread
No not 'saddo', but in general on PH.

Maybe because it's anonymous that poster's let rip.

I've had it myself, but as I always say, when the insults fly, the argument is lost.

Dogstar.

That's not "A friend" of yours now is it. Be honest :-)
DOGSTAR: 70's hard rock band from Somerset.

Never made the charts, but had a loyal fanbase.

Had some bad luck with the personel over the years.

Lead guitarist electrocuted whe changing a light bulb. Bassist went out for some ciggies and never returned.

Vocalist choked on someone elses vomit, and the drummer, well, he drummed his last when he was subsumed by his kit at a gig in Talahechee, Tennessee.

But they always cranked it up to eleven.

The world's first council band, and proud of it.

The Beetles, most notably, beat them to it surely?
Never seen a more motley collection of councillors in my life as that bunch.

I'm a big fan of frozen rice for solo dining (although in plain form rather than the many flavoured or pseudo risotto types).

3 minutes in the microwave (the most council of cooking tools) versus tarting about with a boiling pan for half an hour or so to make a single portion.

I microwave rice. Half a cup is a rough measurement per person, double the amount in boiling water, microwave it in a bowl with a lid for 10 mins and then leave it to sit for 10 mins. Probably not as convenient as frozen rice and I promise I'm not a foodie tt, but it's worth the extra few minutes' effort. Frozen rice sounds like the pikiest thing since periwinkle blue.

I always use frozen egg-fried rice for stir-frys. Throw in some frozen chicken strips from Farmfoods and serve in a tin-foil container, (12 containers for £2 from Home Bargains).

Proper council food.

Have we had this yet? To me it is the the very definition of council, utter ste that everyone pretends to like and sing along to.
