I always thought it was Grade A, not 8??

Agreed that the chest of drawers is a bit duff, I saw one like that in Next the other day on my way for a Costa, not doing any shopping, I hasten to add!
Yes, I think it's Grade A council. Grade 8 is the term to describe someone who is an expert on the pink oboe.

Getting an internet grump on because someone hasn't heard of your favourite rap artist. Council.

I'd like a ruling from the board, please. Carrying out car repairs (to your own car) on your driveway. Council or not council?

Clearly not council, but carrying out repairs to your car on the road outside your house is definitely council.

A new Aldi opened this morning down the road from us, was interesting watching the people queuing specifically for the momentous occasion.

Hang on. I think there are a few missing elements here. Timespan and conclusion.

Spending a Saturday changing the brake pads on a car on the drive = not council.
Spending Saturday taking the boot off a car, failing to get the new one with Dazzers old spoiler fitted to it, on the car. Then letting the car sit on the drive for 6 months while you "work on it" before it's towed away and scrapped = council.

Yep. Manual work isn't intrinsically council.

I witnessed similar when a second Lidl opened across town.
All those new Mercs, BMWs, Audis etc. queuing for ages just to park, when the Lidl across town was at half normal use.
Had it not been for the Dunelm next to it, it would have been a council free zone, unlike the Tesco a half mile away.

I think with Aldi and others it depends on location and management. The two Aldi stores that are closeted to me are very different in atmosphere. One feels downbeat, tent to be untidy and the clientele sullen and subdued. The other one feels light and breezy. The staff appear to be reasonably happy in their work. Customers also tend to be good natured and easy going. One is situated amongst a large area of council/social housing. The other the local housing is less dense and more of a mixed nature.

What's the difference between queuing for a new cost effective supermarket to open or queuing to pay well over the odds for the latest iPhone incarnation?

I go to Aldi a lot and while currently classless in a trendy to go way, some are better than others.

I was in one in Alnwick in Northumberland last night. Lightly populated and a positively middle class atmosphere.

The shop in Blyth - it has just been refurbed and I've not been in since - but it had a dowdy downbeat air. Not unlike the town. Not full of chavs or anything. Just depressed.

Cramllington. A classic classless Aldi.

Sunderland. Dowdy but full of happy staff and shoppers.

Castle Douglas Scottish therefore council :-).
