Jesus holy fk.
Well done for being able to deal with all of that. I genuinely cannot comprehend anyone of even remotely sound mind living like that. A bit of rubbish laying around, dirt on the walls, etc., is more understandable than literally what looks like a skip. I'd be interested to see more photos / stories if you have any (and are able to post them).
I get annoyed when I see a few bits of fluff on our carpet...

I've scooped three inch deep gunk from floors that is all that remains of people who have decomposed in front of an electric fire or have laid unnoticed through a hot summer, I've been in flats so infested that the roaches are dropping on your head from the ceiling or you'll be bitten on every exposed piece of skin by the fleas before you could see them. I've stood in a house discussing with the family how we are going to help them clear the ceiling high rubbish while watching the hair on their 11 year old sons head moving from the bugs living in it.

Just to close the circle, I buy places like this once they've been emptied and most of the "offending" items taken away. When they're emptied, they look a bit like this...And a week later...
Ready for a new tenant (with me crossing my fingers they don't end up like the previous one).
With this one, there was a cupboard off the hall - about 4' wide, 8'high and about 12' long - full of coats. I don't just mean one or two coats, there were literally hundreds. Apparently the fella that lived there before used to go to charity shops buying coats, bringing them home & stuffing them in the cupboard

Hey, br d.
To put it into context, I used to run a major northern cities homeless department. Everything, the cities social allocations, temp accomm, asylum services.
I've dealt with every low life imagineable. Junkies through to child abusers are the worse.
Come winter time the services kick in to give the junkies a bed for the night. They'll drug deal in front of you and strip hostels, hotels bare. Yr right, they are seriously evil people and I have little patience with any drug culture, be it a bit of occasional dope, or young men's choice these days of Coke. It all leads to destruction.
Try being faced with a legal duty to house and place child abusers. Yr sat there with a load of social workers thinking, this b,stard needs stringing up. Not a furnished flat for free.
On the other side though it was a job where you literally changed the lives of 1000,s for the better. Nearly everyone deserves a decent home to live.

I did void clearances for a couple of weeks while in between jobs. I can believe all the stories!
Had to clear a 2 bed flat on the 7th floor and it was as bad as you've described.
Rubbish going back to 1981, toilet, sink and bath full of what looked like brown cement, and a kitchen that looks like it was the scene of a grease explosion 20 years previous.
Had to bend my neck for the first few hours as I was standing on over 2ft of compacted litter and my head was touching the ceiling.
It took several large skips to empty it all.
The best example I've seen is someone dig a hole in the living room floor to build an indoor duck pond!

Does she have Jaundice?
When I was at university my grandfather (retired GP) diagnosed me with jaundice. In fact, his eyesight was just poor and I'd failed to remove all the orange paint from my face because I had a massive hangover from a traffic light party the night before.
Cool anecdote, I know
