You did the right thing! I lived in Sheffield for 3 months, hated it. I work there again. I hate it.
Sheffield has some great driving roads on the doorstep in North East Derbyshire. Where the hell have you found better roads around Aylesbury?
That isn't enough to make up for the st state of the roads in Sheffield though rofl

I've just driven down Derek Dooley Way - huge pot hole in the road that is nigh on impossible to avoid!

Re the roads around Aylesbury - tbh I get very little time to go driving for fun so none!

I am originally from Hull, and yes, as a place it is better, more to do etc. Nicer places to eat down here mind!
Hull ain't bad - although York was my more regular town of choice to travel to.

Although Aylesbury seems to be a bit of a dive, the connections to nicer places are excellent. Oxfordshire seems lovely.

EDIT : Is it just me or are the roads down here in a dire state of repair?!
It is easy to get to places from. MK (while not much better) is easily accessible. We're looking to move out at some point, but its convenient for her work, and on a good day only takes me 2 and a half hours to get to Sheffield.

The roads are quite bad - Oxford Road was quite bad until it was redone. Still, I'd take the roads around Aylesbury to the ones in Sheffield ANY day.

Kenilworth quiet friendly town, love it. Warwickshire roads are okay and you can get everywhere else fairly quickly.
I wouldn't want to live in London or Roseland again.

A local wag blanked out the "S" on the illuminating "Too Fast" sign (it's about exciting as it gets tongue out)

I live in N/E Lancashire. All the amenities you'd need but lovely countryside on our doorstep & some very decent driving roads, plus we're only 40 minutes from Manchester & within an hour of 3 airports.

Can't honestly think of anywhere I'd rather live.

Originally from east london but moved to south hams in devon 4 years ago.

I occasionally take my mx5 to work in the summer and take the scenic commute home over southern dartmoor. A little less congested than Walthamstow smile

Ah, yes, you say that, but you're only allowed to live in Chesterfield if you're terminally confused.

And have twelve toes...hehe

By the way, that new sculpture of yours...

You've had the crooked spire of Chesterfield since time began. Now you've got the crooked cactus of Chesterfield...

Behold, the Cactus Roundabout...hehe
Cactus? Thought it was a banana skin.

There is nothing good about Chesterfield

South West border Cornwall/Devon.

Some nice roads and friendly people, that I have come across so far since my house move.

Near to the sea, and country side weather like most places good and bad.

Solihull. It's not bad overall. Ideal for the commute to Birmingham city centre and centrally located for travelling around the country. Countryside is 10 minuts away too which is nice.

Live in the Bourne valley in Hampshire in a tiny hamlet. Absolutely love it. Great driving roads, good pubs and great place to bring up a wee one.

South Wales Valleys. I live 10 minutes from the Brecon Beacons. Driving roads are pretty st round here don't you know!? but for some reason everyone flocks here in the sun and at weekends!
I don't get it really, as there's not much to see besides Mountains and Sheep, and once you've seen one mountain and a few sheep then you've seen them all!!

just kidding, the roads are fking epic, just wish everyone would ps off on the weekends and nice days so we can enjoy them more! The beacons roads are slowly becoming one large controlled traffic flow in the summer

Moved last year from Hertfordshire to Bournemouth on the south coast. Lovely place to live and if you don't fancy the motorway into Southampton, the A35 can be a lovely drive through the New Forest.

Yorkshire (South), not Sheffield or Rotherham. Devon, Cumbria, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Bucks, Suffolk, Yorkshire (North)

Best driving North Yorkshire. Then Suffolk
Best place South Yorkshire.
Worst place Lincolnshire.

I drive from Ayles to Risborough and Wycome daily, and the main road between them isn't good. Neither is the road up to Bicester.

North Cumbria, where I'm spoilt for choice of good roads. I can head south to the Lake District (20mins away), or go East over the Pennines, or head North in Scotland. Ever direction has amazing scenery, and where there's good scenery, there's good roads.

Traffic isn't too bad, probably way better than anywhere south of me - but in summer all the tourist types come out and dawdle about - ferfuxache, if you want to look at the scenery, stop and have a proper look, don't feckin' drive down a beautiful twisty B road at 10mph staring out the side window! mad

Bedfordshire and love it. When it gets as crowded as everywhere south of the M25 I'm moving to the Isle of Man. So there!

I grew up in the Peaks, and - yes - there are some great roads. But I used to live between Aylesbury and Watford and, trust me on this, the Chilterns has plenty of corkers, too. Dahn Sarf isn't all stationary-M25, y'know.

Now, I'm out in the Welsh borders. Round here, everybody complains about how bad the traffic is in Hereford... It's hilarious.

Why would anybody live in a part of the country they don't like, unless they have some fantastically lucrative job they love in an incredibly localised career...?

This. Exactly this.
The Lakes has some of the finest roads for views, some of the passes are interesting mind!
Penrith to Alston (Hartside) has to be one of the best driving roads in the country.
Love it.
