If I were going to buy something off the internet, I'd start off at quidco.com, and see if I could get cash back.

I used to have ad block, but found that I was missing posts every now and then.

I used to allow ads from pH but they took the piss that much iv blocked the lot.
Same here - back in the old days the when ads were static and relevant to motoring I left them on and often clicked on something I might be interested in. Then they went to an ad server and the ads became credit cards and fake degrees so I block them all at home, the work firewall blocks most of them which is helpful, quite a surprise when I log onto a different computer and see how cluttered it has become.

I have never clicked on an advert online anywhere. The ads here are generally quite poorly executed because of the external site being slow, it results in a massively degraded "experience", so I blocked them all years ago.

I know this should be repeated (for the 20th time) in the feedback section, but even small site issues aren't fixed. Complain about an ad though, and it gets sorted smile Ten minutes would fix this constant complaint:

{{{
sub { "code that contains braces, something that could be fixed in ten minutes but which has existed for years despite many mentions" }
}}}

That's because you had the mobile skin, none of the other skins on here do it. Which is annoying because I really like the mobile skin.

Adblock Plus and Ghostery here too.

The internet is a much nicer place without adverts everywhere.
But will it continue to be a nice place without the advert revenue? Will the good content disapeer?
The best content is user generated. Most of the blogs/articles and edited press releases are complete toilet.

Since Stuart, Garlick and Chris Harris left there has been nothing worth bothering with.

Same here.

I allow adverts on some forums/site that I use because they are not as intrusive as the PH ones can be.

It was better when the advertising revenue wasn't there, now every site on the 'net is trying to flog you something.

As has been said, the best content is the user generated stuff, all the larger/commercial sites are massively biased towards the people who advertise through them, whether openly or through providing items for 'review' etc.

Clicked on one that moves with the page by accident, got fed up with it, no adblock the whole of PH, and mainly miss the homepage, my shortcut it straight to general gassing. So simple there

Me too. PH is one of the few sites I'd be happy to pay for but I can't deal with the ads.

I'm another who's only ever clicked on one by accident when the bloody thing has suddenly expanded and taken up half the screen.

I use Adblock+ at home, not heard of Ghostery, I'll take a look at it.

Don't have adblock on my work PC and PH quite often causes the browser to crash, never get it with other sites and I'm convinced it specific adverts.

A few other websites (usually news articles or amusing stories people link to on facebook) are so littered with ads that they're unreadable on a machine without an adblocker.

I understand that sites need the revenue to keep going, but if you make the adverts obtrusive people will block them.

Interestingly, PH is the 2nd worst site I view for making Ghostery go mental.

Not naming the first : D

My iPad comes up with "Safari cannot download this file". For both these programs. Has someone got wise to them and blocking our attempt to block the ads?
I have just installed a browser from the ap store that has Adblock built in. After visiting half a dozen pages on PH it is telling me it has blocked 150 items !!

What is very strange though is that that browser will not open this thread on PH. Blocked because it mentions banner ads??
