Why is foam/suds/bubbles always white, no matter what color the soap/shampoo/washing up liquid?
For the same reason belly button fluff is always grey, no matter the colour of your clothes.

I watched a video on t'internet t'other day about a train delivering coal to Ironbridge powerstation. Said train had come from Notts I think. Sooooo how does the train navigate cross country like that? I would assume it had to cross countless sets of points and junctions, how did the all send him the right way?
Sounds absolutely riveting.

These days the points are all controlled by a central control.
In the old days they used specially trained dogs called pointers who would push the lever with their front legs
This carried on till people said it was cruel so had them humanely barbequed and served with a side salad.

Think the normal is a litre an hour so I'd just keep it running if you have a full tank, main problem would be snow covering the exhaust and finishing you off from carbon monoxide poisoning whilst you're kipping biggrin
According to the computer on my old V6 Omega it burned a miserly 0.3l/h on tickover . Now assuming my Jag V8 is a touch worse and burns 0.5l/h if I had a full tank it should run for about 6.5 Days. I always make sure I have at least half a tank when its snowing just in case although the worst I've been stranded for was about 6 hours.

Agree that the main issue would be keeping the exhaust clear so probably need regular trips to the back to shovel it out.

If the engine was running constantly wouldn't the hot exhaust and heat keep it clear?

I've been on a fair few flights this year and noticed that some airlines will allow you to wander around the cabin during periods of lively turbulence and others that will demand you are pinned to your seat for the smallest of wiggles.

Is there any defined metric on a plane that determines the need to switch on the Fasten Seatbelt Signs when hitting some turbulence?

I wondered the same, I guess it depends on how much snow you're expecting / preparing for.

Why is it in the F1 paddock almost every team always seem to have someone cleaning wheels?

Well, someone's got to do it, though I've often thought that given F1 is a case study in over-enginnering everything, why no team has invented some sort of automated bath arrangement.

On the topic of F1; how can I be SUCH a petrol head (literally anything with an engine, and I'm absorbed) yet find F1 so painfully boring to watch.
I don't know what it is that makes it so unappealing, can't put my finger on it at all.
Same weekend as Rossi dropped Marquez off his bike, my mate (huge F1 fan) told me the F1 race was the best in years.
Managed 8 laps before I deleted the recording...

Same here. It's a yawn fest.

Had an opportunity to go to the Italian GP, for free. Couldn't be bothered.

I like watching F1, although I do find myself drifting off during some races. Which is strange as I can watch endurance racing all night, where no two cars are even on the same lap (so no "battles" to speak of).

Have you ever enjoyed it?

IMHO the current 'problem' with this season, and the last, is Mercedes dominance. There are some epic battles down the field, but they're not fighting for the win and that does take the shine off it. It's perhaps not as good as it was a few years ago, but it's infinitely better than 10 years ago when on-track passing was almost unheard of (unless the field was letting Schumacher through).

As for F1 as a whole, I think the problem is that it's a science, not an art. To make sport exciting you need drama and a bit of chaos or at least disorder, but that's the exact opposite of what the teams strive for. They want consistency, precision and efficiency - which makes for predictability.

Absolute snap! Havent watched an F1 race for decades but do dip into some BTCC, LMP type and Rallying now and again.
