Why doesn't anyone in Star Wars wear a watch?

They can build you a Death Star or an Imperial star destroyer or make the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs but not have any idea of what the time of day is.
They put one in the dash

And if a fly is called a fly, why isn't a flea called a jump?

What's the point in alligators when there are crocodiles?

What's the point in wolves when there are dogs?

The different species belong to the same animal type yet have evolved differently to adapt to their environment. I'm pretty sure Charles Darwin had a few head scratching moments over this one...

Personally, I don't think there is a point. It's just the way things panned out. By the way, I'm not being depressing and saying there is no point in anything being here, it's just natural selection and adaptation that has led to what we have now smile

I think that makes sense scratchchin

If there aren't any parrots around, I'd ask what planets time of day the watches should be set to.

You'd set you watch on arrival at whatever planet you were on at the time - much like we do here on earth with timezones.

There would probably have to be some sort of universal "star date" like they use in Startrek for tracking time/dates across the empire as well as whilst you are in space.

Of course - you'd also have to account for time dilation effects due to speed and gravitational effects in order to keep accurate time........so it may turn out to be rather complex.

You only need to worry about that if you have left friends and family behind before you jump into hyperspace and you want to go back to see them while you are still young.

For local time, just ask one of the locals when you land.
For all you know a "day" could last years.

They have bigger issues. Like the tendency to built inherent weak points into their most strategic assets. And not just once.

That and their technology allow light speed but not automated targeting of laser canons.

Which is probably why they didn't bother. Way easier to not have them than to have to figure it all out ready for someone at a convention to ask awkward questions.

When I was at school we were taught in IT about Word Processor software, Spreadsheets and Desktop Publishing among other things. I still use the first 2 on a daily basis but does such a thing as DTP software actually exist any more, or has other software taken over that function?
"What You See Is What You Get" (WYSIWYG) Word Processors have done the small "Desktop Publishing" job since about Word for Windows 2.0. I'm not sure if the professionals use something more niche, but in my limited experience publications want Word format.
News publishers use InDesign, my company's software biggrin or Hermes (the ones I know of). There are few others out there, usually built in house (The Guardian use their own software for example).

Print/Graphic designers use Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator and InDesign as well.

I remember a columnist in a computer magazine lamenting, many years ago, about the increased use of Word as a DTP package, a role for which it was completely unsuitable.

I used to write technical documents in FrameMaker many years ago, never having used Word. I then moved to a position where I was using Word (version 6 IIRC) for the same purpose and wept with frustration at how fking difficult it was to lay things out. Pictures and tables would move all over the place or vanish, text attributes change at random, pagination all over the place. Even nowadays it's not a great product for DTP.
Word and Publisher are the most hateful pieces of software in existance. I've lost count the number of times I've tried to explain to clients that Word is - at best - a glorified typewriter and Publisher can't publish.

Why do DJS almost always end the last 30minutes of music with crap cheese music like a greased lightening remix, queen and other 80s stuff I can't think off the top of my head. It doesnt seem to matter much what genre is played the whole night, it always rounds off with that.

I doubt they play Ride On Time at an indie rock club, but the DJ's will play what gets people up and dancing. By the time the last 30 minutes comes along everyone is really pissed.

In Railway Stations :- alongside the platform, down at track level there are often wires that run parallel to the platform structure. They are about 6 inches above the ground, and supported by small 'pegs' with a small roller/sheave.

What is the purpose of them - what do they do ?
