Do these wandering enthusiasts ever surprise you, and buy a car?
Not on the whole but I'm always happy to chat about cars with them as it spreads goodwill, they'll tell their friends where they've been and what they've seen and somewhere we might get a deal out of it.

Case at hand today, chap came in, drove a £2k car, brought his little lad in to look at the cars, I spent a bit of time talking to them both about cars, he's not in the market for anything I've got but you never know, his mates might be, or the little lad when he's old enough.
Cool, cheers for that. My mate visited the Ferrari dealership near Stains - quite some time ago. Obviously just looking, will never own one. Got chatting to a salesman, who asked him if he'd like to test drive one. My mate said "no chance I'm ever going to be able to buy one" but the salesman said no worries, would you like to drive one anyway?

So he got to take a spin in a 355. (it was quite a long time ago).

You never know who's got money in this world. Many a bad salesman has found this out to his cost. I got badly treated at a BMW dealership on launch day for the new Mini Copper S back in 2001. We went to a different dealer where we bought 2 (his-n-hers) for 50K.

Did you stop at the first dealer on the way back? hehe

Emailed the dealer principle the 'pick up' photo (we collected them the same day, despite being delivered a week apart) with a brief explanation. He wasn't a happy bunny.

Asked by my 4 year-old daughter yesterday and I didn't know the answer:

'Why do car dealerships have the boots open on the cars?'
Because some sales managers are obsessed with showing the place is open, despite in the main the only days most dealerships are closed now are Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Easter Sunday. It's the same mentality that puts balloons up. Everyone in the trade takes the piss but they still do it.

Speaking of Dealers (and I know there are some on the board), do you really get that much 'passing trade' these days? Surely with this site, auto trader etc very few people will actually stop in as they were driving past unless they're really after something specific they just happen to see on the forecourt? Most car forecourts, even the supermarket types, are awash with insignia's, Mondeos, Focus's (Focuses? Focii?) and Jukes/Qashqai's? Surely these types of cars don't generate much 'passing trade' as they're everywhere?
At my end of the trade (specialist Porsches) we get quite a few people wandering in, but only as they're enthusiasts and just want a look around. We get very few buyers who just walk in off the street, the vast vast majority have done their homework online first and come to see one or more specific cars.
And at the opposite end of the scale - the small village garage end - you'll get customers who aren't interested in cars, aren't brand loyal, but are completely loyal to the garage.

They'll pop in unannounced, trust you, buy what you suggest they should buy, and (largely) pay what you suggest they should pay.

We have customers who over 40 years have had all sorts of cars and only bought them from us, on our recommendation.

Of course, we've always looked after them to a degree a long way above and beyond the norm. But that's a generation that is sadly dying out.

Judging by the last page of content, I hope I've come to the right place!

As the 25-year-old building housing my local VW dealership gets prepared for demolition and they move into a temporary showroom, up to what percentage of the cost of the new build might VW contribute?

I presume it's not very much, as there will be several floors of flats on top of the new build - perhaps to help pay for it all!

It would very much depend on how much clout the dealer has with VW. They might be up to their necks in credit with VW and have to do exactly what they tell them or, they might be cash rich and able to tell VW to do one when they tell them they have to revamp the show room and get a prettier girl on reception.

Interesting, thanks. Certainly in the 2000s it seemed to take ages for the place to be given the updated look with the metal on the outside and the lemon yellow paint on the inside etc.

Power. It's all about power.

Want support from the men? Place them above and ahead of the women.
Want an army of bds? Tell young men they can do what they like to the other tribe's women after they've killed the other tribe's men.

It's all about power.

So why the vow of chastity (and then fiddling with small boys)?

No idea. I don't think the disciples were chaste, and there are even rumours of Jesus having a woman depending on what you read. It probably does bind them all together and separate them from the rest of us. Maybe that's simply what it is for.

The vow of chastity is what allows a virile young priest to enter a community and be trusted by both the men and women with their juiciest secrets through confession.

It is also a very good excuse for why a closeted homosexual priest doesnt seem to be interested in women.

The fiddling with boys is because once every single adult in the community knows you are supposed to be off-limits, taking advantage of credulous young boys who trust and fear you implicitly is the ready 'outlet'.

None, I should think.

If Ted Cruz gets to be US president, would he be the first US president not born in the USA? Apart from the ones born before 1776 obviously.

As you well know, Obama wasn't born in the USA.

How long do spiders live for?

I ask because there's a little black bulbous job who lives in the roof of our porch. It's about the size of a thumbnail with short legs. I've been spotting it when I go out for a ciggie, and I swear it's the same one that's been there for about three years or more. It disappears for a few days every so often, but this seems to be more cos it's really cold than any other reason. Just when I think it's gone for good, it pops up again

Yes. And even then all presidents born before 1776 were born in states that are now part of the United States, all of those would be described as British American.

Why do some buildings have green navigation lights and others red ones?

It's not like they won the FA cup....

And why do people have love tattooed on on hand and hate on the other? This really is bizarre to my mind. - Most people would do both with the same hand?
