Now there's billions of people, is the earth heavier than it was before it was populated?
No. We are all made of star-dust! All our bits and bobs were already here. In fact, they were all part of other people and animals before we could call it us.
Something like 99.9% of you now as you read this was not part of the you who was born all those years ago.
And the you of a decade from now will be 90% different stuff from the you of today. Or something.

You've changed. All our bits and bobs were already here. In fact, they were all part of other people and animals before we could call it us.

All our cells keep replacing themselves, we'd have red raw fingertips otherwise.
Brain cells don't. Generally. Maybe some neurons in the Hippocampus.SpeckledJim said:

which reckons 37,000 to 78,000 TONS per annum!

At least we had the decency to not boil people alive, freeze them to death etc etc
Instead the soldiers are alleged to raping them and the locals.Think we can hold our heads high.

However I don't think we can hold our heads high as John put it knowing that our soldiers went out and raped civilians, not just soldiers.
And I'm sure there are much worse things troops did but were never documented or glossed over because we won.

Really? Will that include mass experiments on prisoners, numerous concentration camps where torture routinely took place, genocide and established ghettos where murder, torture and mass executions were everyday? Until it does, and probably even then, I'll keep my head high. However I don't think we can hold our heads high as John put it knowing that our soldiers went out and raped civilians, not just soldiers.

Dresden was overkill, but that's war for you.

It was done as a show of force,to show the German people that we could and would if needed, destroy any city or town we choose. We would be every bit as ruthless as they were.It knocked German morale, and made many ordinary Germans see that Hitlers lunacy couldn't carry on.
I don't expect "Bomber" Harris or any of his aircrews were proud of that night, but even the righteous sometimes have to get bloody.
The Americans did exactly the same with Hiroshima and Nagasaki
