Drug addicts, especially those living on run-down housing estates- where do they get the money to buy drugs with? If they are stealing it, who from and how, and why haven't the people they are stealing from run out of money/stuff? If it's prostitution, where are they getting the clients from, and how do the really ugly ones get clients?
They steal stuff from people who have nice stuff, and then flog it to the first buyer. People who have nice stuff tend to have it insured, so the nice stuff gets replaced - and then nicked again (frequently) so you could argue that the insurance business is paying for the drugs wink

As for the prostitution - there's a market for everything.
Thanks for that, but not really answered the question. Anybody who lived within reach of one of these estates, and who was having their stuff stolen regularly would soon be unable to get insurance, as for the prostitution answer, I don't think so.
Comes down to the phrase 'never st on your own doorstep'. If they're robbing locally, it doesn't take a genius to figure out where the source of the thievery is, so I would imagine they go a little further afield.

Just guessin'?

Judging by the sort of videos I have to deal with, there really is a market for *everything*.

Which would mean that every every day there's a mass exodus from these estates with drug taking robbers on foot making their way to where the rich people live. I say on foot because I assume they've long since sold their cars and bicycles for money for drugs.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but such behaviour is going to draw attention and 'a little further afield' isn't going to be enough.

It's my guess that nowhere near as much drugs are consumed in these places as reported, or else the drugs are very, very cheap.

I think your mental image of drug addicts is a little wide of the mark. Maybe change your newspaper. wink The vast majority of drug users function well enough to hold jobs, or just sponge off the dole and do a little work/dealing on the side. They have a roof over their head, food, and cars.

And, yes, drugs are very cheap and easy to obtain too.

And most of them are not heroin, cocaine or crack. Far more of them are prescription drugs which are sold on.

I wasn't really thinking about the totality of drug users, just the ones that don't have jobs or money, my question was about them, and how they pay for the drugs they reportedly consume. They may be just a fraction of the overall drug taking population, but there's still quite a lot of them.

Shoplifting is very common. Stealing clothes, make-up, food (cheese&meat), razor blades and pretty much anything else. If you go to some crummy pubs you can do your weekly shop without leaving your seat.

Why do we call a "Washing Machine", a "Washing Machine"

We don't call a Hoover (which is a Vacuum I know), a "Dust sucking machine"?

What's the alternative ? A Laundrerer ? A Washingbot ?

Nobody's come up with a more acceptable name yet - and no one brand has dominated enough to become generic. (I always giggle internally when people talk about their Dysons being Hoovers).

In the sports world, if nutrition and training are improving all the time, how come there are still some world records that were set in the 90's?
For example, I believe Jonathon Edwards still holds the triple jump WR from 1995. High jump record was set in 1993 and the 400m hurdles record still stands from 1992.

My cynical self thinks maybe they had more "assistance" back then but who knows?

Now, without looking it up, I'm pretty sure the Triple Jump record was set at high altitude? Same with the High Jump? Small differences but they all count.

The 400m hurdles? Maybe Ed Moses was just a beast? /edit having just looked it up, it wasn't even Ed Moses!

High Jump was a Cuban, therefore likely doped up to the eyeballs. I doubt Edwards was on the sauce though, he was a devout Christian and several times debated not competing on Sunday's.

Compare the variables in the triple jump to something raw, like the 100m. There are so many things to get wrong. That might be part of it.

Church of England vs. American fundamentalism? Moderate vs. fundamentalist. Also Americans are more right wing anyway, and more religious.

The British God Squad might be fiscally leftist, but they are, like their American equivalents, still socially conservative.

Sexist, homophobic, anti-all-sorts.

It takes a whole lot more than nutrition and training to be the best in the world in an athletic discipline. Edwards tested clean btw.
