My nephew is approaching his 13th birthday and my wife has announced that she's no longer going to organise a present for him as she has no idea what to buy a boy of that age - Apparently I must know exactly what to get him as I was once a boy of that age!

Before anyone suggests it, cash and gift vouchers are not really a preferred option.

He lives in Oxfordshire and we live in Australia which complicates things further.

I know that he's into:

Arsenal
Minecraft
PC Computer games

He's not into cars or Lego.

Ideas please! Preferably something that we could order online (amazon etc.) and have delivered to him.

Budget is less than 25 pounds.

I was a 13 year old boy once, and i'd suggest a box of Kleenex*

  • Because I had a terrible cold around that age

My nephew is 14 going on 15 and he's just wanted more football stuff, away strip, new trainers, new boots, another football, bags for stuff. He plays though, so not sure whether yours plays or just watches. ReallyDunno stuff also includes iTunes/Google Play voucher or a cinema voucher with £30 on it for him to take his mates or the g/f he's so shy talking about to see something

Minecraft Lego - kids love it apparently. I know you mentioned him not liking lego but it combines something he is interested in.

I he has steam perhaps you could buy him a game on that, he may have something on his wishlist he wants, or you could credit his account.

Out of interest, why not? You live on the other side of the world, and he's of an age where he will much more appreciate some cold hard currency than something he doesn't want from somebody who he (presumably) barely ever sees. Or is this one of those 'we must get him something new and exciting that he'll love and remember us forever' fantasies that seem to be peculiar to the female kind?

My kids - very similar age - love getting vouchers in particular. The thrill of going into a shop, handing over something of essentially no value, and getting something back really gets them going. Equally I can't remember the last time that I bought my nieces and nephews an actual present (significant birthdays aside); despite seeing them several times a year I wouldn't claim to know them in any real sense and the chances of my buying them something that they actually want (and don't already have) are vanishingly small.

For those suggesting a knife, please bear in mind OP is Australian.

Is that for some kind of Crocodile Dundee'esque 'That's not a knife' thing?

My son is 14 on Sunday and all he wants is money and clothes (with Superdry, Hype, Ellesse or Jack Wills written all over it.) He loves PS4 games but seems to have all of the must have ones.

Fags. He should be starting smoking at thirteen. I suggest getting him some Silk Cut to start off with then building up to the red Marlboro by the time he's fifteen.

Thanks for all the suggestions - Not sure his mum will appreciate a packet of fags shoved down the middle of a rolled-up razzle mag laugh

Why dont we want to do cash/vouchers? Because both of us remember when we were that age and our aunts and uncles gave us record vouchers, book tokens or cash and being a bit disappointed.
