Grrr - Battling with eBay frown

I advertise my model kits for sale on eBay, and as they are manufactured to order each ad has a quoted dispatch time of between 10 and 20 working days depending on the complexity of the kit.

A few customers have failed to understand this ( or have not read the 'dispatch time' of the ad ) and send a message asking where their kit is. Unfortunately when they do this eBay automatically raises a non-delivery case against me ( even though the quoted dispatch time HAS NOT EXPIRED ! ). This then adversely affects my seller rating, and ebay then start applying selling limits to my account.

Thanks to this I can now only list a maximum of 10 items this month instead of the 80 or so I normally advertise. Given the wide range of models and parts I produce this is clearly insufficient to sell many of them frown Not selling anything then prevents me from improving my scores ( they are calculated on a rolling annual %age ).

Twenty minutes of online chat to customer service before the guy on the other end started to understand what I was on about. It has now been passed up for review but I'm not that hopeful frown

I suspect many buyers don't read the ad? Jazzing up the wording might help?

Might be worth putting it as a picture aswell? Something short explaining they're custom made to order and to expect a waiting time of X and to contact you if they have any queries?

Mart - this is exactly the reason I am banned from selling on Ebay.

All because of idiots who cannot understand that I am not a business, I don't have my own army of couriers & my local post office is a waste of time so all my auctions stated delivery time up to 21 days.

I had 2 cases in 1 month from people complaining of non delivery , one chap after 4 days FFS. I made it clear that if he wanted the car part that desperately he could have bought one brand new or from one of the other auctions listing quicker delivery times but he wanted it CHEAP.

All I received back was a snotty email from Ebay about my communication skills and nothing about the buyers who cannot read auction terms!!

Why would you wait up to three weeks to post the item if its a used car part? When I sell stuff its packaged up ready to post and is posted as soon as possible afterwards once payment is received, I can understand the waiting time for custom made items but not for off the shelf/used parts, Hermes and collect plus make it very easy to drop the parcel off somewhere locally and its no hassle, I'd be raising a case if the item I'd bought had not arrived within 7 days, as 21 days for despatch/delivery is unreasonable IMO even if that is your terms.

aka kerrly - I share your pain - many buyers simply don't read the advert, but ebay always sides with the buyer.

I even had a couple of instances where the buyer complained that a £10 conversion kit didn't include the £40 Airfix kit it was intended to convert - I pointed out to ebay customer services it was like buying a pair of windscreen wipers then complaining they didn't come with a car but they still sided with the buyer frown

Unfortunately while eBay is great for the average joe to pick up good deals, there are idiots like my cousins who buy literally everything off it and expect everything to be perfect and sent within hours. They lack the capacity to understand that someone might work more than 16 hours a week and might not have a small army of people available to pack and ship items.

It's no different to selling a car privately. More hassle than it's worth.

I advertise 2 postage options, a free one that is Hermes that takes 3-5 days, and a £4 (half price !) for next day delivery with Interlink. Most people obviously choose the free option but still get the 'wheres my parcel' after a few days. A case should not be able to be opened if the expected delivery date hasn't passed

That's YOUR VIEW which is FINE, The vast majority of items were indeed delivered within a period of a few days but the point you're missing is that it is MY AUCTION thus MY TERMS, it was clearly stated and if you didn't like it you could bid on something else.

If EBAY had a rule that said everything MUST be delivered in X days I'd oblige, since they let the seller select up to 30 days for delivery why should I not be allowed to give myself some extra time, the idea being to prevent people nagging after 2 days because they have mistaken me for Amazon!

That is exactly the point I tried to make with ebay customer service, but they seemed to have great difficulty in understanding frown

I received the expected 'blah' reply from them this morning which did not address ( or even mention ) the specific points I had raised. I replied listing the points and asking for a specific response for each of them

Not holding my breath frown

This is the reality of eBay. They want you to be the cheapest, offer the fastest dispatch, deliver yesterday and pay for returns regardless of the situation.

Seeing that Ebay is (allegedly) a hive of scum and villainy, what good alternatives are there? I know too many people who have had major grief with them. To say Ebay seems to have utter contempt for sellers would be an understatement.

Aside from Gumtree, what else is there? I've got quite a few items I want to shift but I really really don't want to use Ebay.

I am selling a Macbook Air at the moment - I thought eBay was bad until I tried Gumtree...some of the emails I receive make me weep. It's just a pity the PH classifieds for non-motoring stuff aren't promoted more as I am sure it could be a good medium to sell/buy.
