I knew James Whitham growing up and he was quite the character or lunatic depending on your definition.
He admitted he had to ask his mum to wipe his adult arris as he had but one shoulder blade, thought sod it and rode an enduro bike and came off and knacked the other shoulder so couldn't wipe himself.

Also met Lenny Henry at a recent corporate do and he was very funny in person which shocked me.

Gaby Roslin off the Big Breakfast, very pleasant

Tim Healy off Benidorm, Auf Wedersehen Pet, not spoken to him but he goes in my local, drinks and smokes a lot

Geoffrey Hughes, Onslow/Eddie Yates, very pleasant chap and contrary to his characters, very intelligent, sadly now departed.

James May.

Professor (just Doctor then) Alice Roberts.

Both just the way they appear on TV.

Petr Cech; I'm not in to football at all, I wouldn't have recognised him, however I had heard of him; all you hear is how badly behaved top flight footballers generally are.

He came into my work to buy a car for his nanny, what a lovely guy, my football fan colleagues; particularly the Chelsea ones where becoming all moist in places that you shouldn't and one even made a bit of a tit of himself, however he was more than happy to chat, to have photos taken and to sign autographs.

Petr is a proper normal no ego bloke.

He's a regular at Guildford Flames ice hockey matches as he's a big hockey fan.

Sits with the fans, spends time talking to the kids and has time for everyone.

A proper football role model unlike others.

Remembered some more.

Was in the next pod to Will.i.am on a flight to LAX. (Free honeymoon upgrade).

Proper nice bloke and noticed I was reading Hot Rod magazine and we chatted about cars much to the wife's annoyance.

Turns out he was on his way back to the States to launch his new car, which is ugly.

Had a summer job at David Lloyd and played doubles with Kris Acabusi and his daughter, funny bloke but loved the attention.

Johnny Herbert and Rubens at my Dads work summer party, nice blokes.

Geri Halliwell at his works party last year, she took a shine to my son who was 6 months at the time and ended up playing with him most of the day, Christian Horner was nice bloke too.

Robbie Coltrane, not the nicest person on the planet!
Been told the same by a couple of taxi drivers I worked with.

Met Tony Hadley in Majorca...decent bloke happy to chat and have pics taken.
Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand singer).. one of the most pleasant down to earth I have ever met.
Alice Eve...sat in back of car with her mother (Sharon Maughan)..attempted friendly conversation for first couple of miles of 30 mile taxi trip, gave up. Bit full of herself imho.
John Hartson..decent bloke, happy to chat.

Geri halliwell was at one of my sisters wedding a few years ago, being an ex of her now husband, just seemed to blend into the background and very normal.
Leo Sayer was due to sing at a friend's wedding but at the last moment his manager decided to pull the plug, I still made a complete tit of my drunken self asking him what his favourite song of his own was hehe

John Cleland and Derek Warwick popped into the showroom one day when BTCC practice at Brands was cancelled.

Cleland was a top bloke. Warwick was a little bit offish.

Bob Mortimer is very, very quiet in real life.

Tom Baker was an absolute nutter.

Quentin Willson is a nice bloke face to face.

There's a long thread on another forum that seems to echo a lot of these.

I used to own a pub/B&B.
David Bellamy, quiet, unassuming, happy to chat with dhead customers annoying him. Ate his steak rare.
Peter Aliss, really pleasant bloke, had scampi and chips.
Matthew Paris just blended into the background, roast beef.
BTCC driver whose name I can't be arsed to Google, but he was I think the son of Lord Portman. Sponsored by Stoppers stop smoking clinics and smoked like a trooper.
Very personable asked for his eggs 'over easy' but admitted he didnt know what it meant.
Actress who is Miranda's mum on the telly, Patricia Hodge, bit stand offish but nice enough, Spaghetti Puttanesca.
Andrew Sachs, didn't realise it was him, cup of coffee and a couple of Café Cremes.
Archie Gemmill, roast beef no airs and graces dead normal.
Brian Clough,
John Robertson, loud mouthed, drunken Scottish .
Dale Winton tt.
Geoff Capes great bloke
Sharon Davies stunning to look at very pleasant.
The last 5 I met elsewhere so can't comment on their menu choices.

Mostly Motorsport and car people met through work:

Allan McNish - absolutely fantastic guy, super friendly and very smart too

Ben Collins (ex stig) - great guy, as above really. His wife is really nice too, not a bad thing to say about Ben at all that I can think of in all the dealings I've had with him

Tiff - only spoken on the phone (a few times) and haven't properly met him face to face but he's exactly as you'd expect him to be

Damon Hill - don't really remember actually, make of that what you will

Jason Plato - great guy, good sense of humour, or really grumpy and hard work depending on the day! To be honest he probably thinks I'm a pain in the ass and was only being nice because he had to hehe

Non-car people

Gerard Depardieu - as you'd expect, literally inhales wine

Jason Donovan - much smaller than you'd expect, kind of like a hyperactive toddler

Jo Lumley - national treasure and everything you'd hope she'd be

When I was a youngen and working in Waitrose, Jon Snow popped in with his current wife.

Seemed like a good, honest, normal person - as did his wife.

Certainly better than a number of the non-famous fking st-for-brains -faced tts that unfortunately inhabit certain parts of Waitrose.

Muhammad Ali 1986 at the Basildon Festival Hall where Witherspoon was training for the Bruno fight, massive crowd which quickly dwindled once the public sparring sension ended so i decided to hang around for an hour and it payed off.
Giant of a man back then and was just like talking to my best mate.

Mike Tyson 1988, very polite and surprisingly humble and had plenty of time to chat, even with his 6 or so bodyguards present. ( not that he needed them )

Marvin Hagler 1988, pleasant guy and took the time out to share a beer, although he had no interest in discussing the loss to Ray Leonard, so had to quickly change the subject!

As you can probably tell, i was and still am a bit of a boxing buff but meeting Ali, especially when he could still communicate properly was mindblowing.

Sat next to Led Zeppelin's John Bonham in a pub in Kidderminster once, starstruck, and short of something to say, I said "The beer's good in here John".....

He got up from his barstool, said "fk off" and walked out...........

Real rock 'n roll......hehe
