His daughter's telly. Not his. Don't forget that she is a journalist and that the guy who picked it up was a Pole.

Why wouldn't she lend the Polish bloke a screwdriver?
I think we will have to assume that Telegraph journos 'don't do manual labour' therefore no such implement was available.

John Lewis all day and everyday for big home purchases
Top class.
I don't see why they should be unscrewing anything.
They didn't fit it, they should just be collecting it, surely ?
They're doing you a favour, where's your thanks?
Most retailers would expect you to bring it back to the shop

There's nopleasing some people.
John Lewis Partnership wont be losing any sleep.

First thought - rather rude daughter.
Although it sounds like she was peeved off for their late arrival.

In any case, this thread isn't going OP's way.

You and your daughter come across as thoroughly unpleasant people.

If that was the case then I'd expect her just to say she didn't habe one.

Pole asks to borrow a screwdriver to take TV of wall bracket. Daughter says go get your own.
My interpretation of this is that she did have a screwdriver but, for whatever reason, didn't want the Polish bloke to use it.

I bought a large electrical item from John Lewis a couple of months back. They refunded £50 when I found it cheaper elsewhere the next week.

I bought a bag from them in November. One of the metal clasps sheared. They sent a courier to collect it and refunded me in full.

Am I doing this right?

What has the collectors nationality got to do with it?
The collector's nationality has quite a lot to do with it. If you're dealing with someone from a foreign country whose English may not be 100% fluent then it makes communication between the two parties significantly more difficult. I live in London and get first hand experience of this daily.

Additionally, I think it's perfectly reasonable that the daughter did not lend the screw driver to the collector. He may have chewed it up or damaged it in some other way. One thing I'm confused on though was why the television wasn't removed from the wall and packaged up in time for the collector.

If I was the Pole I'd have told the snotty cow to get her own screwdriver, and get the TV off the wall. And I'll be waiting in my van having a brew and she can give me a shout when its ready to pick up.

Absolutely, could have been used as a thread-closer. I laughed out loud, and he's right.

Hang on. So it's unacceptable to lend tools to the collector so he can take the TV off the wall, but also unacceptable to have not done it yourself first? He should bring his own tools, but not have to remove the TV? Bizarre.

Maybe the Pole wanted a lefthanded screwdriver, and she only had a righthanded one

Possible. They do drive on the wrong side of the rode.

My first thought, was what do the OP's grandkids want with a 42 inch TV?! In my day we were lucky to get a meal and a warm bed to sleep in...

EDIT: Where is the comedy? Compared to 'mock the week' this thread is st.
