Was Freddy Mercury English though?

He was born in Zanzibar and would have had British Citizenship eventually - but that wouldn't ever make him English.

For entertainment and devotion to the arts, i'd would choose the likes of Sir Patrick Stewart or Brian Blessed.

There is no one in the music industry that I could say is the greatest, by a long shot.
I would however agree that Hawkin has given us an awful lot.

All very white, middle class so far...shocking.
87% of the population of England is white (and even more so if you only class people born in England was being "English") - it should therefore come as no surprise that the majority of the suggestions would be of this ethnicity.

But as an aside - Freddie Mercury wasn't white he was asian (suggested on page 1), neither is Frank Bruno (suggested on page 2).

pffft, it was a throwaway line. Mercury isn't alive and Bruno is barely...and was he ever a serious contender?

I did point out 2 small issues in that he wasn't actually English and was also dead.

Is the parrot required?

Funny. We've had some racers, but nobody's yet mentioned Sir Stirling Moss.

Certainly not Macca, never been a great beatles fan nor do I think Lennon And McCartney to be anything special, the true musical genius of that group was undoubtedly George Harrison.
