Try not to be a dhead...
sorry. I struggle with people living in nice houses getting upset at the prospect of other people wanting to live in other nice houses in the same nice area that they chose to live in.

I think it is very understandable. Would you just shrug it off? The area will become not so nice though , no?
They only want exactly the same thing that you (I/we/they) want though. How cross can you reasonably get with someone who has the exact same motivations that you have? We/I wouldn't be cross with the new owners, not their fault. We have a proposed development behind some houses near us, we live in a village close by. This development is in close proximity to 3 SSSIs and there have been rare birds found also on this site. It has mature trees with a rookery that is probably a hundred years old, a Heronry and 9 species of bats, etc.
It would be tantamount to vandalism to build 340 homes on this site.

Cheer up, soon you will have even more Europeans (although last time I looked the UK was in Europe..) in the area building the houses! Just as well there are some shops for them eh?
Be interesting to see what the drainage scheme is for the site. As mentioned before, likely to be greenfield runoff rates with an emphasis on SuDS. Depending on how they design it, it could be quite pleasant.

If a site is actually special then that's different. It would be tantamount to vandalism to build 340 homes on this site.
9 times out of 10 the only special thing about the site is that some people can see it from where they brush their teeth. And that's not much of a reason to deny people somewhere to live, which, at the heart of it, is what these planning battles are all about.

Over the years on various I have:

I rather like you,as a developer, having read that. Over the years on various I have:
