Just had really good service from Bloc. I reached for them last month and found the one lens had popped out, probably due to me not putting them safely in the car's armrest cubby hole. I squeezed it back in but the inside coating was damaged. Sent it off and they said it's 'delamination of the polarisation' and are sending me a replacement pair. Paid £52.80 from B'ham airport on way to Kos last year.

Agree. I've got 2 pairs and they are miles better optically than anything else
If I can find a style I like, I may try these out then. Seems they're available here.

I purchased a lovely pair of Oakley sunglasses a couple of years ago for around £140. About a year ago I scratched one of the lenses but never got round to getting a replacement. Then about 6 months ago I sat on them and bent them almost in half.

I sent them to Oakley asking if they could be repaired - wishful thinking but worth a try I thought.

They came back to me and said I could buy a replacement frame for £40. So I asked could they also put new lenses into the new frame as one was scratched. Yes they said, that will also be £40.

So a new frame and lenses, basically a new set of sunglasses, for £80.

That is great customer service!

Cool story, I know.

Well I take it all back! The Sungods have arrived... So pretty prompt service really. Ordered them late on Monday.

Nicely packaged and decent quality cloth bag with them.

First thing I noticed is that the lenses were completely covered in fingerprints on both sides I presume from person fitting the lenses, so they needed a good clean first. You would have thought they would give them a quick wipe before boxing them up.

Just worn them for the drive from home to office.

They do feel really cheap when you first get hold of them. Very light and flimsy feeling. But actually because they are so light they are very comfortable when being worn as I just discovered.

Nicely finished plastics though. I went for Frosted Grey frame, it's a matt finish and slightly translucent. Brushed alloy side logos are nice.

The lenses are correctly polarised (I've checked!) and to be honest, they are pretty good quality. The polarising works really well and I noticed how good they were during my drive at eliminating the reflections on other car windows, water, and glass on buildings etc. The clarity is really good and the tint is good. Good for driving.

Overall, I'm pleased for £35.

You can get polarised Bloc glasses for £35-40 and I think I would rather have these.

Also for anyone visiting America on a regular basis I would suggest buying from sunglasses hut in the US. They have a policy of break within 6 months free replacement after that time pay 1/2 price. Certainly helped me when I broke mine after a month!

I bought some UVEX sports glasses that I think have been great value. UVEX do a lot in the snow goggles and safety glasses market, and their sunglasses are very good for teh price (about £30 for a frame with clear/yellow/grey interchangeable lenses)

Book yourself a holiday in Spain. For £140, you can get about 10 pairs of Oakley's from the lucky lucky men on the beach, see, you don't even have to go shopping to buy them. Result!

And then book yourself into the eye clinic when you discover they aren't protecting your eyes from anything at all... wink

I did buy a fake pair of sunglasses once actually, but I didn't know for sure they were fake until I got them.

They were a pair of Spy+ Helm 'Ken Block 43' edition sunglasses and they were on eBay listed as secondhand and I just fancied them so won them for about £10 which was suspiciously cheap.

When they arrived they looked pretty good but as soon as I tried them on I knew they were fake! The lenses were like looking through slightly cloudy/hazy plastic... awful.

Threw them in the bin.

The top ones:

If your feeling flush go look at the Oakley Carbon Blade.

I know I'll get flamed for this but the Ferrari edition are very nice indeed.

Ps: do not look at the price!

Another +1 for SunGods

I have 2 pairs, (and it was very hard to limit myself to only the 2) and they're excellent

Really impressed so far - mines have the red legs.

I'm happy with the Sungod's for the moment, but if anyone else is wondering else there is out there, a friend recommended 'Hawkers' sunglasses to me.

http://hawkersco.com/

Made in Spain but post to UK within 5 days.

Same idea as the Sungods - Polarised and UV400 but 30 Euros a pair and loads to choose from.

Their Facebook page appears to have the special editions etc on there: https://www.facebook.com/Hawkersco

These turned up today. Feel nice, but they are my first set of "expensive" sunglasses. Might report back one I've worn them in.

Tie them on with a bit of string.
