The problem with these limits is that while a £6 lunch and £16 dinner is easily doable, if you're being put up in a hotel you expect to be able to eat at the hotel, and unless is a basic pub grub type of place you're going to struggle for £16. I was once told by previous employer that I'd been spending too much on food while working away, when I'd had a cooked breakfast in the hotel, a salad from a sandwich shop for lunch, and a medium priced dinner in the hotel.
Mind you I was staying away last week and it was £3.04 for a 3 course dinner

Ooh, I don't know. That seems cheaper than chopping tens of millions of pounds out of the budget because your revenue has dropped

To be fair it's more than generous but it is a French company and they do like to dine out with wine on a regularl basis.
I spent several months living in a hotel away from home and I'm afraid £16 would never have cut it for dinner.
Two courses in the bar, before drink, topped £20. It was amazing how even just eating a burger, a small desert, and a pint or two could almost exhaust the £30 limit.
If I was away for one night I'd not really mind making some sacrifices and getting a cheaper meal, but as others have said, if you're away from home for extended periods of time then it's reasonable to expect to have some home comforts provided.
In my case that was often room service, so I could eat in my room in front of the tv, like I would at home, the charge for that was £5 alone.
I challenge anyone to spend months on end living in a hotel, getting "home" from work each night and then going back out to trawl the streets looking for a sub-£16 dinner AND being happy about it. Where I am now, even away from the hotels a f
king burger and chips often tops a tenner on it's own.
