Friend of a workmate did my carport roof as a homer. It was leaking along part of the seam and after many excuses from week to week I even explicitly told him I couldn't wait any longer to get it re-sealed past one Sunday recently. Low and behold, despite this, no text, no call, no him. I told him I had to get someone else to finish the job and yet more excuses come out saying I didn't need to do that.

I've asked him to pick his ladder up twice in the past week and no reply. I have no need for them so what's the best way to get his attention?

Send him a picture of them on fire.

A gumtree advert had crossed my mind. He knows I can't move them myself without getting a van.

I had some workmen leave a long ladder behind after they'd done some work - they didn't return for it even though I asked them many times. After 6 months I gave the ladder to a neighbour.

I'd tell him he has a week and then it goes on the pavement outside your house with a 'free to a good home' sign on it.

Are there any traders around you? Ask if they could use an extra ladder.

I wouldn't put a sign on it or give them away as he could likely then claim the cost of the ladder back from you.

I would just dispose of it and then deny all knowledge of it, someone must have stolen them.

With what means could he actually claim the cost of the ladder back? He hasn't got his own business.

I don't think that has much to do with anything. You can't just dispose of his ladders without him agreeing. Though realistically its unlikely he'd do anything about it.

Just put them in your front garden and let nature takes it course laugh they'll be gone in a few days.

Something similar worked for a mate when he couldn't get scaffolders to take scaffold down from his house.

Believe the conversation went something like...

"You won't mind if I place an advert saying 'scaffold, free to collect' will you?"

"We'll be there on Monday sir."

How have you asked him twice with no reply? Via text?

Text, like all previous communication he's had no problem replying to. And fk him, I was already far too nice. 28th November is when he did the car port roof and just 3 weeks ago was when I said I wouldn't wait any longer to get the seam resealed. In hindsight I obviously shouldn't have let it drag for so long but he seemed a decent guy and as a workmate's mate, I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

They'll fit into almost any vehicle if you apply a hacksaw first, perhaps mention this to him.

Give him 5 days to uplift then Freecycle it; it will be gone before you get up from typing the advert.

Are the ladders made from aluminium?

Do you have access to a hacksaw?

Are there any scrap metal dealers nearby?

Where are you? If you're around the West Midlands I could get someone to collect them in a van and drop them off back at his.
