Would you rather be in a boring job where you could just browse the internet quite a lot/listen to music.

Or a stressfull job with high pressure.

Just curious, some people seem to like being stressed i dont think its worth it.

Stressed.

I have a decent job with medium stress, sometimes hectic/pressure, most time chilled, steady away.

Recently bought into a struggling business because I was a bit bored, fancied something on top of my day job and like the challenge/stress of it.

There is an element of grass is always greener.

But usually you don't realise the cushy jobs till it's too late.

Biggest issue with the former is you feel like you're wasting your life.

Issue with latter is there is a chance your life will end sooner.

Stressed, my current contract provides me with enough work that could be achieved in 3 days at a push. You end up just not bothering as its an easy life. I'd much rather have some pressure and get paid more. its an easy habit to get into which is why the impression of many public sector office non-job positions is so poor, IE an easy ride and no real pressure. Be glad to get back into the private sector soon.

I see many people work extra hours for no real tangible benefit. If you can't get your job done in the allowed hours thats your own doing.

I understand that some industries require 50 hour weeks, but thats just not for me.

Seen both ends. I prefer more stressful and challenging jobs where I can see the sense of achievement.

Having done one where I was permanently stressed (in the clinical sense), I now do one where I'm about 50/50 and I can choose (more or less) when the stressed period hits. Much better. My alcohol consumption has gone down dramatically.

I wouldn't be bored if I had the internet to surf and lots of music to listen to.

My last job was in a small startup web agency doing all the coding, often worked ten hour days with a good few 18 hour ones in there. Managed it for three years before it drove me mad, knew I had to quit when I visited my parents and they thought I'd taken up hard drugs as I was so wired. I did love the challenge and grew a team of devs I managed. Was laid back in that new media kind of way (we had a foosball table).

Quit and went from being a lead developer to a plain old dev in the public sector. Less responsibility, 10 minute walk away, more money, exceptional pension, 35 hour week, flexitime - put in a 38.5 hour week and you can get 44 days holiday a year and very little stress.

Current place is as boring as the other was stressful.

I prefer my job more when it's stressful and do my best work.
I prefer my life when I have a boring job.

I think a kind of 5 years on 2 years off in terms of stress levels would be ideal for me. My current job (15 years and counting) is very much the latter and I can't help but think i'm just wasting away doing it, even though it pays the bills and alot of family and friends are very envious of my situation.

Recently left well paid, easy, boring job that was doable in a few hours a day... For a high stress, long hours, long travel slightly better job and am hugely happier.

It's all about the presence your employer gives you, the values of the firm and the impact of your outputs that the business chooses to appreciate.

Love the positive stress... Feel alive again, plus I'm told I'm better and more energetic company once more.

I remember stress. It was stressful. Not fun.
My position requires attendance and occasional thought. Good colleagues and almost decent salary. I quite enjoy my work.

ETA I've been in this job for +20 years and the same boss for over thirty years, on and off.

I have no stress at all; no one breathing down my neck, decent wage and benefits, radio on, few cheeky naps now and then, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

If I want a challenge I'll do something challenging out of choice like restore a motorcycle, rather than be roped into being stressed and challenged for whatever % of my life a stressful working week entails.

Speaking as someone who has the "boring" job at the moment, a bit of stress or just interest would be nice.

I came from a fairly stressful job, so the first year of having it easy was enjoyable. At nights or weekends (I'm a shift worker) its just me in the office and there's even less to do than a weekday, so I really do just watch YouTube, DVD's, listen to music or whatever else I'd like whilst doing a bit of work on the side when it comes in. By the end of the second year I was realising just how boring it was, and now I'm half way through my fifth year and the boredom is driving me mad. No stimulation, nothing new happens, my brain just feels like mush and I crave doing something interesting, even if its just tidying up the server room!

There needs to be a balance. I'm in the process of looking for a new job, and I know that I'll eventually look back with fond memories of how easy I have it now, but whereas a stressful job might send you to an early grave, a boring one just turns you into a zombie.

Boring jobs are a trap. An easy life for knowledge stagnation and minimal pay increases. Not for me.
