I found this online - http://jezebel.com/10-of-the-scariest-stories-weve... - and I can't really believe any of them.

I don't believe in ghosts or anything else really - the only scary thing that has ever happened to me is the people at the edge of sight (I think they are called the edge people, something to do with the eyes).

Has anyone on here got any "true" creepy stories?

Just the one, whilst reading about the Stars/Universe/Sun type stuff on a thread on here...

Either:

  • We are alone in the Universe
  • We are not
Think about it...

My niece when young used to ask about the lady who watched over her at night.. The vicar who came to "clear the house" ran away and refused to come back...

Earlier this year, Two things happened in my house in fairly short succession. 1) was playing some old vinyl from years ago on New Year's Eve just gone and felt something blow on my elbow (had a t-shirt on). Managed to compose myself (not easy) and asked 'them' to do it again, held my arm out, and it happened again.

Had some 'white noise' a few weeks afterwards, totally randomly off my desktop as I walked past it. Again, I asked for the repeat and I was duly abliged, plus a couple of other more minor experiences.

I had the house 'cleansed' a few months ago, and have had nothing happen since.

I await the aggressive critics, but the truth is, it's the truth.

Back in the early 70's aged about 9, i was doing "bob a job" for the cubs, I knocked on one door and a bloke answered with his knob hanging out, at the time I thought it was hilarious that he didn't realise this fact .......... I now know it was a bit creepy.

The truth is you believe it's true. Anomalistic psychologists would say it's all in the mind - cortical neurons having a bit of fun.

Just a minute ago whilst reading this thread the front door knocked. Both myself and girlfriend heard it and both went to answer. Opened the door and there was a tall man in a dark blue jacket holding a bag. He turned around and left when I said we hadn't ordered a takeaway.

Other unexplained things happened when others were here too, so it wasn't just me. I won't divulge, but I had to get someone out in the end.

As I say though, all is quiet now.

I've got two really rubbish ones and I don't believe in the supernatural but I may as well share...

I moved into an old house on my own, on my first evening I set up a lamp in the front room and went down into the cellar. When I came back up it was turned off, upon inspection it was turned off at the plug socket and at the switch on the power cable (which I'd never do as its completely pointless)

A few weeks later I had a couple of friends upstairs, I went down into the cellar to turn the washer on. When I came back up the contents of the cupboard nearest the cellar were on top of it confused Friends denied it and seemed believable, nobody has admitted to it to this day.

On the flip side I lived in my Grans house for 10months which is something like 360yrs old (meter thick walls kind of thing) Its apparently haunted and I never saw or heard nothing untoward in the entire time living there irked (nor have I in any other house)

Who did you get out? If it was a vicar then wasn't it lucky they knew the right witchcraft to banish the spirits.

Or said the right thing to put your mind at ease...

No, not a vicar.

Paranormal websites are all so fking badly designed. What's wrong with black on white text?

I have premonitions.

Some of them prove to be startlingly accurate.

For example I feel this thread will be good, harmless, round the campfire fun until one of the resident Pistonheads Mr Logic characters turns up to ruin it.

I'm even pretty sure I know which one it will be.

Nowt to do with anything paranormal and not exactly creepy but definitely spooky in its own way - some years ago I was working an engineering train down at Bridego Bridge, the scene of the great train robbery in '63. It was pitch dark, very cold and there was not a sound apart from a slight gust of wind now and then. I was standing next to my loco chatting with the shunter about the robbery when a car appeared at the end of the lane just to the east, screetching round the 90% bend closely followed by a Police car with its blues and twos on, they shot under the bridge just below us and headed off towards the west. We turned to each other with yikes expressions on our faces and felt a strange chill in the air. Suppose you had to be there but it certainly gave us the heebee geebees.

Some years back a friend moved from the North of Scotland to the Cotswolds with his job. He found a nice old house near Minchinhampton common located up a narrow old lane. Beautiful place and location. We went down there to help with setting up and noticed that although it was summer the place was absolutely freezing, I mean freezing not just old house chilly. No amount of heating seemed to warm this place up. He found out later that long time back a notorious Highwayman was cornered in this building and hacked to death by his pursuers and his body chained to a post on the common to rot. Local legend said that he haunted the place. Very few people stayed in that house for long as it's history showed. My friend did indeed move out after a couple of years. My memory of the place was waking up during the night absolutely shivering with cold on each of the few nights I spent there . I just put it down to an old building needing dried out and heated up. None of us new anything about the area and had never heard of the history. I seem to remember the highway man was known as Long Tom, maybe someone local will know about this place and the house. It was in a lane near the top of the steep hill out of Stroud almost on the edge of the common. Never been there before or since.

Two stories, both first hand experiences. Went for sunday lunch at a pub in Derbyshire. sister went for a pee, whilst washing her hands got talking to a small girl, said she was the landlords daughter, nothing remarkable at all.

Came down stairs, said to the landlord that she had just been talking to his daughter, landlord said she was at Uni in Edinburgh. She had been talking to Mary, landlords daughter in the 18th century who had drowned near to the pub.

Second story is set in Knutsford. A friend bought a house, all good apart from one room that was permanently cold, even in mid summer. The house was round the corner from Knutsford jail and used in Victorian times by the visiting executioner.

She couldnt stand the house in the end and had to sell up.

Not creepy as such; just going on's.

When I lived at my parents, my bedroom was in the extension, it was always cold, no matter how high the heating was.

Pictures move in the dining room at my parents house, they have to be constantly re-adjusted so that they are level; only in the part that is in the extension though.

One night when at my girlfriends; now wife, I had an hysterical phone call from my sister, the shower in my parenst en-suite had turned itself on and the sliding door to the en-suite was moving, she could hear it moving when downstairs; the en-suite is in the extension.
