It's clearly not, or he wouldn't be spending so much time persuading himself that it is. He's well aware he's not persuading anyone else!

Hormones, that's what it is.

From a purely personal point of view, I've not had kids for several reasons.

1. A history of depression. I think it would be selfish to bring a kid into the world knowing it might end up like me.
2. The insecurity of the job market. I've been made redundant twice in 5 years and all the time I worked in child protection there were staff cuts, wage freezes etc. Unless you've got a large slush fund/wealthy spouse/parents it's, IMHO, irresponsible to bring a child into that equation.
3.The two serious relationships I've had been with people who were more interested in their careers. I'd say one had absolutely zero maternal instinct whatsoever.

On a professional level, I spent 10 years working in child protection investigating cases of neglect on learning-disabled children. Trust me when I say that I wish more people chose not to have children. A depressingly large amount are just not suitable as parents.frown
And before people jumping to conclusions about "dole scroungers" "druggies" etc, you'd be surprised at the amount of seemingly nice, middle- class professionals we came across who couldn't give two fks about their kids welfare and were more interested in their career/business.rolleyes
There's nowt so queer as folk. I believe your every word. In your position, if not already done so, I'd look for another way to earn a living. Even if that means a salary cut. Been there done that twice with pay cuts but, things improve for the better, far better if you go about it in the right way. No bluddy wonder your "history of depression". Get out ... get out now. No messing. There must be something else less poisonously stressful you could do.

Gee Wizz... so nice of you to say.

That's your sound "cloth ears" judgement eh?

You have not got a "judgemental" clue. When your eyes have stopped rolling in their sockets, use them look and ask the poster how he feels about it. I will respect their judgement far more than I ever will yours.

Other opinions may differ from yours greatly and have far more salient content and accuracy.

This. The chap already made it clear that 'a decent slush fund' is lacking so how is being paid less going to help?!

I can't assess what shooting myself in the head is like until I try it either but I can form a reasonable assumption based on the practicalities involved and the results achieved by others that it's not something I want to do.

No intention to have kids as after seeing all the crap my brother has to put up with his 3 offspring I can quite happily say no thankyou. This was confirm yesterday flying back from Ibiza when several families and their screaming poo bomb's also shared the flight making it a 2 hour assault on the ears and patience, why nobodies invented a sedative you can give them before boarding a plane is open to question as it would make everyone elses lives much nicer.
Agree very much, I'm thoroughly looking forward to my summer holiday this year. I'm not looking forward to being stuck in an enclosed space with screaming kids. Which is a shame because I genuinely love flying.

Also the little s who kick the seats in front should be thrown out, while at altitude, without a parachute. Little sts.
Interesting thread earlier this year started by a chap who was planning to take his two 2 year olds on a 30 hour flight and was weighing up where or not to bother buying seats for the kids!

Needless to say, the idea of paying a little extra to have a break halfway through was swiftly dismissed and it was up to everyone else to just put up with said kids (it's public transport so apparently they can do what they want and everyone else just has to deal with it).

I thought I could form a "reasonable assumption" but what I was not expecting was the "tsunami of emotion" when I first held my little girl cloud9

FFS I even drove within the speed limit on the way home and was tutting at people overtaking me.... eek

Just read through it, you were spot on to be honest.

I've got no problem with kids flying, in the correct way. Screaming, shouting, tantrums, kicking, running, throwing ste etc. is not the correct way. It's annoying in a large open space, it's 1000x worse in an enclosed one and makes it hell for many more people.

Parents that come out and say "just don't fly then" are fking s of the highest order. Control your bloody child you halfwit, you and your spawn are the problem not me.

Then maybe you should think about that before taking them on a long haul fking flight.

yes

Unless essential personally I wouldn't. I don't think there's anything holiday wise that can't be found on a short haul 2-3 hour flight to be honest. Long haul flight isn't fun for adults, why inflict it on your kids?

Frankly the younger ones are far happier mucking about on a beach in the UK anyway as they can't stand the heat too much or the hot med sun.

Anyway this has become a bit circular. In addition some people (not yourself Cotty) have resorted to just calling anyone who expresses an opinion they don't share an 'idiot' even though they themselves seem incapable of intelligent and reasoned discussion.

I like discussion, debate even, it fires the synapses. At no point have told anyone they would better off if they had a child but simple sought to share my own experiences without being shouted down.

I'm oot!
It's interesting that you keep reverting to this "I'm just a nice fella trying to have a chat" mantra. I've only skimmed this thread but twice I've seen you telling people that they wouldn't make a decent parent, an astonishingly presumptuous and offensive stance to take.

You're a fraud.

Funny that you are the one to mention the thread becoming 'circular' seeing as how you've been saying the exact same thing, over and over and over and over, for pages and days. If only people didn't have the temerity to disagree with you, hey? Then you wouldn't need to keep repeating yourself.

Anyway, good thing you've 'gone' (as if you aren't reading the thread to see how your wumming is going), as you come across as smug, condescending, arrogant and self congratulatory. Good riddance.

No thoughts for me, as I have 2 young ones it's obvious I have no money left for such luxuries, no time left for such luxuries and am condemned to a life of centre parcs once a yr at best

Still only 15 more yrs until they bugger off and my life can start again biggrin

I think this touches on an important point, much of the anti child vitriol on this thread is focused on the behaviour if babies and very young toddlers 2-3 years old, what the childless seem not to consider is that this is a very brief period in a childs life, my 5 year old is pretty self sufficient, dresses herself, gets ready for school, gets the bus, when she gets home on the bus she takes herself off and gets changed. She is quiet and well behaved in restaurents and on public transport.

So yes very small children are a pain, but in the scheme of things they transform into mini-adults shockingly quickly.
