Gran Canaria seems cheap. Property / Food / Beer ( £1.20 a pint ! )
Just back from a holiday and the Brits are telling me they have no regrets moving out there.
Downside is the summer energy bill - cooling unit required.

So a visit to Bali will cut your expenses in the UK by 95% just by having the wife kidnapped. Bargain!

Just got back from a trip to Prague. That place is cheap, took £350 in currency and came back with £200.

80p a pint. We had a meal with loads of booze and it came to £8. Even flights with Ryan Air are dirt cheap.

Bit closer to home than Thailand !

Was just about to suggest this as well. Ate like a king every night for next to nothing and the food was easily the best I've ever had, we didn't have a bad meal in 5 days. The beer is superb as well.

We also paid about £40 for a 4 hour shooting experience at a firing range just outside of Prague. Great fun.

Poland. Wroclaw as an example, very cheap property, food and drink. Fit women and good nightlife. Nice climate and close to 'home' if you want to nip back for the weekend.

Philipines, cheap as fk but obviously not so hospitable for a westerner... terrible climate, tropical, HOT and wet and humid etc...

Im in Spain just now, Tarragona. In Catalunya, about an hour from Barcelona and it is noticeably cheaper than Barcelona, food, drink, property, cars, all cheaper than UK. Alot of the properties are in built up areas, apartments etc... however often with stunning views and ideal locations for socialising. I'd move here permanantly if my situation in the UK was different.

There are places but often when people move from the UK to such places, they are quickly reminded why the UK is such a desirable stopping point for immigrants. We have it good here, all things considered.

Totally incorrect about Rural Spain, I have lived and worked in various parts of Rural Spain internet iis guaranteed by law that anyone anywhere has to be given an internet connection.
There are various forms to be filled in all available from Telefonica, if for instance you are in a mountainous regiion or in a valley they will provide you with a dish up to 3 mtr.
I have had these in Galicia and Malaga province over 15 yrs ago.
But you will need to be able to read, write and Speak Spanish to get these things done.

I live in rural Spain, plenty to do, only 15 mins from Malaga, the beach and the airport. Have 3mB internet via satellite. It is cheaper to live well compared to the UK - especially eating and drinking, whether in or out. Electricity is very expensive though, as are used cars.

Ex-pat told me some 5 years ago he retired to Turkey for the very same reason you mentioned. He reckoned he couldn't afford to retire in the UK, but could in Turkey.

He bought land and had a decent size house built (with a pool) all for what you'd expect to sell a modest size house in the UK.

Food etc was (is) cheap if you know where to shop.
You get a lot for your money on the Syrian/Iraq border

Hmmm I'm guessing you don't get out much.

Did you go to Benidorm once and not like all the foreign food?

I went to work a weekend in Madrid last year. Everyone warned me about the high cost of everything.

We finished work on the Saturday night and on the walk back to the hotel we noticed that a lot of the empty residential blocks suddenly had little bars with cheap chairs and tables outside.

10 of us sat down and drank plenty of beers and a bottle of Jack Daniels with plenty of croquettes thrown in. We were there about 3 hours and the total bill was €100.

We were the only foreigners there so as said before, go where the locals go, even in expensive places.

I'm going to stick my neck out and suggest Barry.

Christ you could buy a house there for the price of a new car.
