That was true 15 years ago (De Beers) but the market has opened up now.

That diamond is flawless (FL), not so much to do with cut or colour, and as only 20% of diamonds are usable for jewellery (the other 80% are industrial grade) and even less are flawless and colourless I'd say they are that price for a reason.

Synthetic diamonds are actually more expensive to make (jewellery grade) than natural ones are to dig out the ground.
