You have to pay the TV licence to watch live TV. The fact that the BBC receives funds is irelevent
You pay to watch TV. If the BBC ceased to exist, you would still pay that licence fee.
Agreed, but the reason I don't mind the licence fee is that I see the value in the services that it funds, and I see value in being able to access live TV rather than catch-up services. If someone didn't see that value I'd understand why they felt the licence fee was unfair. You pay to watch TV. If the BBC ceased to exist, you would still pay that licence fee.

Like it or not the BBC have had a massive influence over the music that we all enjoy today.
Without them and their broadcast of innovative output the music scene in the UK might be influenced by commercial/local radio.
Imagine that?
Commercial radio simply would not employ the likes of John Peel or more recently Radcliffe, Maconie and Riley ... they would impose a play list on the likes of 6Music if they ever had it in the first place vs some kind of playlist driven radio 1 and half Without them and their broadcast of innovative output the music scene in the UK might be influenced by commercial/local radio.

I've previously complemented the absolute family of stations but the generic 'Absolute Radio' is my least favourite of that family compared to the interent only 'decades' stations or Absolute Classic Rock.
Classic FM is widely and roundly panned compared to R3

I'm not letting anyone walk over me. I happen to think the BBC is excellent value for money and regularly make use of their services from live TV, radio, catchup services and their website. IMO they put out far better factual programmes than any of the commercial broadcasters.
I'm perfectly happy to pay the TV licence.
THe BBC has nothing to do with you paying the TV licence. YOu would have to be an idiot to belive that. I'm perfectly happy to pay the TV licence.

Is mph1977 trolling?
I can only assume he works for them. He calls people some quite spectacular names whenever the BBC's licence is questioned. Sociopathic? Really? I reckon if he had his way most of us would end up in a Gulag.

OK lets look at this from a different perspective. Say the BBC did not exist, the tV licence would still exist. You pay to watch TV regardless who gets the money.
Righto, unlikely as it is I can imagine this. Where are you going with it?Cotty said:

Jeez there far worse issues out there than £140 over a year that's 3 tanks of fuel in my mx5 hardly the end of the world.
So I find a program/movie I want to watch and pay to watch it. Why do I need to pay for a TV licence on top of that?Jeez there far worse issues out there than £140 over a year that's 3 tanks of fuel in my mx5 hardly the end of the world.

What was the name of the prime time Saturday show where they had a movable wall with different cut out shapes.
Top quality broadcasting.
No idea, I'd have been listening to Clive Anderson's Loose Ends or The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show.Top quality broadcasting.

If you're happy to not view live TV and instead only use on demand or catch-up then you don't need to pay.Cotty said:
Be a sheep let people walk all over you, take from you what is not theirs. I am so sad that people will not stand up for themselves.
Odd, isn't it. PH is a loosely car based place. Yet you don't worry about VED, once road tax, now just a straight tax on car ownership based on fuel consumption, where usage is extra taxation.Would you be happy if the TV licence remained unchanged, with perhaps a 100% markup for 50" and above screens, and every channel subscription only?
Careful what you wish for....

If you're happy to not view live TV and instead only use on demand or catch-up then you don't need to pay.A good analogy IMO is a car. You pay VED as a flat tax (relatively speaking) to enable you to use your car on the public highway, whereas the VAT/Fuel duty is a pay as you go tax that depends on how much you use your car and for what purpose.
