I think the really sad thing about gym selfies is the haters.

Someone is bettering themselves, why not support it?
^This.

Plus some of the gym selfies from the ladies... cloud9
^^ This. As much as I dont like it, when you've worked for something its natural to want to show off a bit about it. Also, never take the piss over people in the gym. They've regonised they can improve and are taking steps to do so, and not have the piss taken.
Bettering yourself is great, taking pictures of yourself in the gym just to show others is narcissism, pure and simple. I recently started walking to work in a bid to lose some weight - its a good thing and others agree when in conversation on the matter, but I feel no desire to whip out my phone en-route to work and take a selfie to post online.

Yes! I used to be that girl! It's embarrassing isn't it? I think I am just growing up and Not giving a fk about what people think now.
Yet you're on here (a version of social media) seeking affirmation of your views.......

Fair enough by the way, I have no problem with you being on this social media and I don't really care what people put on any others. Each to their own etc.

Why?
Is it to show off your body and gain more 'likes'?
I don't understand why people do this, they must have really low self esteem and it's sad to see.
I don't have a bad body but I don't plaster it all on the net, and if I work out I don't take a selfie.

Facebook Status: 6 hours at the gym done! Proper SMASHED it!

Er ok? Well done you, here have a like.

Instagram photo of me half naked doing some bendy yoga pose.

Really ok. Yoga is surely for your own benefit, but here have a like anyway.

Am I the only one annoyed by this? biggrin
If it is a woman doing that I won't complain.

I've posted 3 pics to Facebook this very morning...

I wasn't even at the gym today.

I'm not sorry.

Maybe your walk to work selfie might inspire others to do the same?

If you all really hate social media that much, just bin your accounts off...

I work hard for a decent salary - I don't post photos of my payslip every month though...

If anyone uses Twitter have a look for Gym wkers.

Its not people posting selfies in the gym but other people filming tts in the gym and posting it. Some are clearly set ups but there are some genuinely funny ones.
This is me thinking about how bad some of their trainers must be https://twitter.com/Gymwkers_/status/59643316957...

I do sort of indirectly, I spend much of it on cars then post pictures of them online instead, It's a disease frown.

I agree one should never take the piss of people in the gym though sometimes it takes willpower not to paperbag. The gym can be quite a funny place with all its various characters doing their thing.

Bloke today in the gym (yes I go but only do cardio, or running as it's also called) and he was grunting whilst doing curls. (He was also swinging the weights behind him to get them up. I'm no expert but that's not the correct technique)

After each rep he'd stop pose and take a picture of his arms. hehe

At one point he smacked his head on the bar from another machine which swung back and smacked him again as he lifted his head. rofl

I had to leave after that.

Hmm.
Blokes with those sort of bodies are either, gay, really ugly, narcissist, on steroids, a 19yo or a mix of all!

Judging by the lack of definition on the flanks I'd say roids.

hehe

How does a dislike of the "selfie" translate to a hatred of social media?

Gym selfies, baby photos, cars people don't like.... People moan about the content but I've no idea why they don't just follow the advice above and stay away.

Ideal opportunity to filter your "friends" or those you follow.

I only started this thread to ask if there were any people who have the same views as me. I agree, it's just pure vanity and people desperately trying to get people to say how good they look. Like I said, I used to be vain in my early 20's and I cringe at that now. smile

On a night out there are too many people wanting to take photos to just relax and enjoy yourself.

It wouldn't be too bad, but at least one of them won't be happy with the way they look so it takes even longer taking several.

I assume that is normal these days.
