I have step children.

I once took a photo of my bloated belly after I had a Chinese, and posted it onto Facebook.
Never had so many likes in my life. I felt so popular.

The pure narcissism of selfies astonishes me. I have no Facebook account, do not tweet my hourly trivia, have no need to plaster my most routine pictures across the web, do not photograph my dinner, me in front of the Eiffel Tower/Pyramids,photobombing some minor celebrity or the rest of it. It seems so utterly self obsessed. DO people think that their perfectly normal lives are in some way fascinating?. I go to the gym daily, but it would never occur to me to photograph myself or anybody else.

^^^^^Very much this ^^^^^

Like girls who post full body selfies and caption it "oh I'm so fat"; they aren't fat, they know they aren't fat, they are waiting for the inevitable flurry of compliments from their "friends", "OMG you are so not fat, your are so gorgeous.......XOXOXO" If they were that hung up about being fat, they wouldn't post up a "fat" selfie.
Same person as above used to moan about being fat, all her family used to say she wasn't fat etc.

She was. She had to turn sideways to get through doors!

She got really upset when someone said she was.

I find it all a bit ridiculous to be honest. Seeing people post selfies, literally everywhere they go. Why? I just don't get it. Solo selfie, group selfie, holiday selfie, driving selfie (yes seen those). The problem is I'm in that age group, where all they seem to do is take bloody selfies.

I was out at the weekend for a friends birthday, suddenly these girls shout out "selfie!" and they're all crowding round the outstretched arm of one of them. It's fking bewildering, if you want a photo, ask someone to take it for you! It looks better that way doesn't it?

The ones where the person is by themself is even worse. They just end up looking like a posing tosser, desperate for some kind of validation or attention. "RANDOM SELFIE LOL" - How is it fking random? You've clearly done your hair, makeup, dressed up, found some good lighting, pulled a fking stupid face, took the photo, applied a filter and uploaded it. fk off sunshine, it isn't random.

Rant over.
Now post that as a reply to every selfie you see today. biggrin
Don't tempt me. I haven't been 'active' on Facebook for ages and ages, I only login from time to time to check to see if I've missed any events, or something remotely interesting was happening (post election was a laugh). I could surprise everyone and rant all over their selfies.

The 'no makeup selfie' was amazing.
"Omg you look so beaut with no makeup on, you should wear less all the time!"

No love, it's called a filter.

This thread is very much making me want to get to the gym.

Chest day.
Don't forget to take a photo or the gym trip will have been wasted!

Cheer up you lot - if the people doing it are that bad then delete them/unfollow them/unfriend them/go and find them in the gym and just before they take the selfie, replace their phone with a loaded gun. Problem solved.

Wow some seriously miserable bds on here.
If you don't want to see gym/food/baby selfies then unfriend or block them or leave FB altogether. But secretly I bet you love snooping on other people's lives and would rather see things like that than an empty news feed wink

I like seeing pics of people's gym results, food, travels etc. because it gives me inspiration to do that kind of stuff, rather than being a miserable jealous tt.

It is rather odd, taking a selfie and posting it online is quite literally going 'LOOK AT MEEEEEE!!!!!!'. I find my own life rather tedious a lot of the time, I've no idea why anyone else would be interested in it and the same applies in reverse. Whilst I'm interested in how built I am (not very) or what an epic pump I've achieved I can't see why anyone else would be.

Then again I'm an unsociable bugger and my facebook feed has almost nobody on it as I can't be bothered to read all the rubbish everyone posts.

Exactly why i do not have a Facebook. I am not in the least jealous of any of these self-absorbed exhibitionists, nor do I want to post my own life for others. If you like seeing this stuff, fair enough. Seeing someone with a selfie stick in a museum makes me wonder why they are there in the first place. The obsession of recording every miserable little detail detracts from actually having the experience.

Still..here we go..Smile!..got it…posted for my 794,000 followers to critique. Sorry about the shine on the nose though.L)
